MSN Direct Entry as Second Degree:
MIDAS Program
This is the entry point to a Master of Science in Nursing for the mature, goal-directed individual who has a bachelor's degree in another discipline who wishes to be a licensed registered nurse (RN).
The 20 month MIDAS program (two academic years with a summer in between) is a full-time program of study. Upon successful completion of the program, the student is awarded the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree and is eligible to sit for the National Council Licensing Exam-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN).
The Xavier MIDAS program is unique in that it imbeds the new clinical nurse leader (CNL) role. The MIDAS graduate, after obtaining RN licensure, is eligible to sit for the clinical nurse leader certification examination. The clinical nurse leader is a generalist clinician with education at the master's degree level who delivers nursing care at the point of care. The CNL role is a national initiative developed in 2004 by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) to address fragmentation in health care delivery. It is a proactive, integrative and comprehensive role that assists direct care providers in bringing the best of health care science and practice to the point of care. The MIDAS student is also prepared as a holistic nurse. A holistic nurse and his/her client mutually plan goals that facilitate wellness, health, healing and well-being. After obtaining RN licensure, the MIDAS student is eligible to sit for the holistic nurse certification examination.
