Course Information
Minors
French
To minor in French, students must complete 15 hours of French courses as follows: Take six hours of language & culture from FREN 300-351; six hours of literature from FREN 420-461; and three additional hours of electives from FREN 300-498. All courses must be taught in French to count toward the minor. In addition, a 2.000 cumulative average must be attained in the French courses.
Spanish
To minor in Spanish, students must complete 15 credit hours of Spanish courses as follows: Take two language courses from SPAN 300 or 301, and SPAN 328; one culture course from SPAN 350-352; and two additional elective courses (6 hours) from SPAN 302-498 (except SPAN 353). All courses must be taught in Spanish to count toward the minor. In addition, a 2.000 cumulative average must be attained in these Spanish courses.
German
To minor in German, students must complete 15 hours of German courses as follows: Take six hours of language & culture from GERM 300-351; six hours of literature from GERM 420-461; and three additional hours of electives form GERM 300-498. All courses must be taught in German to count toward the minor. In addition, a 2.000 cumulative average must be attained in the German courses.
Latin American Studies
Xavier also offers a minor in Latin American studies(L.A.S.). To earn the minor, students must complete 18 hours of courses relating to Latin America, as follows: Take L.A.S.core course taught in English (SPAN 353); one course in Spanish language development, one course in Latin American literature; one course in theology; one course in either Latin American history or political science; and one approved elective course.
Courses will be approved each semester by the program director in consultation with the chair of the appropriate department. In addition, a 2.000 cumulative average must be attained in these courses.
