Cintas Center: Featured Article

The Cintas Center opened to a great fanfare in Fall 2000, it is the primary athletics facility in campus.  It serves a multitude of other important functions for both internal and external constituencies.  In fact, 35% of the events scheduled each year in the Center's various facilities are for off-campus group activities.

  • The arena seats 10,250 and is home to Xavier's basketball and volleyball teams.  The men's basketball team has averaged more than 10,000 fans per game since the arena opened in 2000, and the women's basketball team has led the conference in attendance several times during that span.  The tremendous community support at the Cintas Center has created a distinct home-court advantage for Musketeer teams: the women's basketball team has won approximately 80% of its home games, the women's volleyball team 83%, and the men's basketball team 87%.  The arena also hosts major lectures and concerts open to the public.  Each spring it hosts thousands of graduates and their guests for the Xavier University Commencement and about 30 high school graduation ceremonies.  All totaled, the arena annually hosts more than 125 events serving more than 300,000 people.
  • The Schiff Family Conference Center and James and Caroline Duff Banquet Center hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year.  Events include but are not limited to public lectures, corporate meetings, trade shows, wedding receptions, fundraisers, and social events.  On the annual basis, these two areas of the Cintas Center host more than 1,250 events with guests from these events totaling more than 110,000 people.  The University sometimes underwrites all or a portion of the facility fees to encourage usage by community partners who might not otherwise be able to hold their events here.  Recent examples include: Anthony Muñoz Foundation's High School Leadership Summit, Cincinnati Homeless Coalition Annual Dinner/Auction, BRIDGES for Just Community Awards Dinner, Sisters of Notre Dame Annual Fundraising Luncheon, and Archdiocese of Cincinnati Annual Catholic Schools Dinner.
  • The Cintas Center also serves several important internal functions for the University community.  With the opening of Fenwick Place, what once use to be the Hoff Marketplace cafeteria is now vacated and serves as additional programmable space.
  • The Siemers Family Office Suite located in the Cintas Center is the home for many Athletics Department administrators and the coaching staffs of men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball. The Center also houses the primary sports medicine and strength conditioning facilities for Xavier's student-athletes.
