Guard Duty
When given the parole word, what is given in
return?
The challenge and the password.
2. For Guard Duty, what is the "fixed post
system"?
Assigning sentinels to guard duty at fixed positions
where they remain until relieved
3. When a guard has live ammunition, what is
the action of the relief commander when a guard is posted
or relieved?
The relief commander personally supervises the
loading, unloading and clearing of the weapon.
4. What is a Challenge?
Process used to ascertain the friendly or hostile
character or identity of another.
5. What is a Countersign?
Two words; the secret challenge and its password.
6. What is a Parole word?
A special password used to check the countersign.
7. What are the two types of guard?
Interior and exterior.
8. What is the purpose of an interior guard?
To protect property and enforce military regulations.
9. What is the purpose of an exterior guard?
Lookouts, listening posts, patrols, and other
guards in combat zones, field training areas and guards outside
the limits of a military installations.
10. What is the difference between Special Orders
and General Orders?
- General Orders outline fundamental responsibilities
- Special Orders instruct the actual performance
of duties and differ depending upon the nature of the area
being guarded.
11. May a guard leave his/her post to investigate
or apprehend personnel involved in a disorder nearby?
No.
12. What should you do if you are not relieved
when your tour is over?
Stay on your post and contact the Commander
of the Relief.
13. Who can give orders or instructions to guard
members?
Only personnel in the guard’s chain of
command.
14. What specifies the time of challenge?
Special Orders.
15. From what position does a guard with a pistol
challenge?
Raised Pistol.
16. From what position does a guard armed with
a rifle challenge?
Port Arms.
17.After challenging with a pistol, does the
sentinel salute?
No, he remains at raised pistol.
18. When does s sentinel salute during daylight
hours?
They don’t, saluting would place the sentinel
in a vulnerable position.
19. How close should a stranger come before
you order him/her to halt?
30 steps away or a sufficient distance to allow
for reaction time.
20. What should you do if you observe an irresponsible
guard on a post?
Notify the commander of the guard, or a NCO
of the guard, and stay on the post until a qualified guard
is posted.
21. Who does a guard surrender his/her weapon
to?
Only to a person he/she lawfully receives orders
while on post.
22. What does firing a weapon three times in
rapid succession mean?
Great Danger.
23. Do all Special Orders have to be in writing?
No. They may be written or oral.
24. What are the three elements that compose
a guard?
Fixed posts, Patrols, and Reserves..
25. Must a guard be familiarized with his/her
military weapon?
Yes.
26. What is the Chain of Command for guard duty?
Commander of relief, Sergeant of the guard,
Commander of the guard, Officer of the day, and Field Officer
of the day.
27. How many reliefs compose a guard?
Three.
28. When is a parole word used?
To check on the countersign when inspecting
the guards.
29. Who gives the password and when?
The challenge person, after hearing the challenge.
30. Who is entitled to the parole word?
Persons entitled to inspect the guard and the
commanders and members of the guard. |
