Health Services Administration Alumni Named President and CEO

John M. Fogarty will lead St. Joseph Health Services of Rhode Island

FOGARTY NAMED TO LEAD ST. JOSEPH HEALTH SERVICES

OF RHODE ISLAND

(North Providence, Rhode Island): John M. Fogarty has been named president and chief executive officer of St. Joseph Health Services of Rhode Island (SJHSRI), the state’s Catholic-sponsored health system that operates Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence and St. Joseph Hospital for Specialty Care in Providence.

Fogarty has served as executive vice president and acting CEO since last year, when longtime CEO John Keimig resigned to take a position with Quality Partners of Rhode Island. He has been part of the management team at SJHSRI since 1988, and has served as its executive vice president since 2003. 

During his tenure at SJHSRI, Fogarty has played a key role in the evolution of the St. Joseph Health system, including leading the development of specialty rehabilitation and psychiatric services at the St. Joseph Hospital campus, outpatient satellite services at Our Lady of Fatima and, later, serving as chief operating officer for the entire organization, focusing on operational and quality improvement.

Bishop Thomas Tobin, Chairman of the SJHSRI Board of Trustees stated “John Fogarty is the strong, consensus choice to lead our organization during what will most assuredly be a pivotal time in our corporate history. Upon assuming duties as interim CEO, he quickly demonstrated a capacity for executive leadership and strategic thinking that balances his strong operational talents”.

            Fogarty stated “I am tremendously gratified at the confidence the Board has placed in me, and I will focus my energy on assuring the continuation of a high quality, vibrant Catholic health care option for Rhode Island.”

Fogarty received both his undergraduate degree and master’s degree in health care administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and serves on the board of the Urban League of RI and the VNS of Greater Rhode Island. John and his wife Janet and their two sons reside in Barrington.
