Class of 2010
To address health care disparities in Cincinnati, a collaborative effort between the MHSA program and UC medical students has begun. Second-year students Justin Ramke and Eric Peters have worked with medical student-run programs to provide both strategic and financial direction since the beginning of the year. Their collaboration with these programs paved the way for each incoming class to get involved and forge ongoing relationship with such programs. Through this opportunity, students will gain first-hand knowledge of the challenges of delivering care to the underserved. In addition, participating students will be able to apply classroom lessons to real-world situations. Given the wide-range of opportunities available, this innovation may also lead to more classroom or capstone projects in the future.

Jaya Agrawal has been awarded the first Charles E. Housley Scholarship, named in honor of the 1967 graduate of the program. Jaya, who began the program in fall '08, has been an active volunteer as a Montessori school teacher, a Destination Imagination team coach for Freedom Elementary Public Schools, and an active member of Ekal Vidhalya, a non-profit organization which provides food and education to kids in rural India.
Her favorite parts of the program include clinical rotations and Karen Kent's management class. Jaya also has a unique perspective on management: as a CPA in India, she discovered the differences across international lines. She hopes to use her knowledge from the graduate program to work in a hospital and focus on uninsured populations.

Residencies are very much the buzz among second-year students. Among them is Adam Momper, who has already secured a residency with University Hospital in Cincinnati to continue a relationship he started before entering the graduate program in health services administration.
Momper began to consider the program when he worked at University Hospital and came in contact with a current student. Upon further research, Momper felt confident that Xavier was a good fit for him. With a wide availability of residency opportunities close to home and campus, Momper knew this graduate program was right for him.
When asked about his favorite part of the program, Momper quickly replied: "The alumni." He cited their willingness to help and ability to connect students with other graduates. "It seems like there is somebody everywhere who is a Xavier alumni." As the days on campus come to a close and residency looms ahead, Momper is excited about the opportunities offered by Xavier University. He specially referred to an overnight ER stay that is required as a resident. Being involved on the clinical side is where Momper would like to stay long-term as well. He wishes to become a Chief Operating Officer, where he can work closely with doctors and stay in the midst of the action.
Payton represents Xavier at NAHSE
Congratulations to Willie R. Payton Jr., Class of 2010, who was chosen to participate in NAHSE's 23rd annual educational conference and 40th anniversary celebration, in Atlanta. Nearly 600 participants were in attendance.

Fall semester is in full swing and with it comes a new class, with eager students well on the way to becoming the next group of leaders in health care. The Class of 2011 comes from a variety of undergraduate institutions, and each student brings a unique area of knowledge to the table. Of the 29 students in this class, nine different groups of majors are represented.
The Class of 2010 is very busy as well. With more than half of the didactic portion of their work behind them, residency is a hot topic in the hallways. Students spend their days preparing for interviews and filling out applications as most of their free time is filled with homework.
With such a promising and energetic group of students, we are sure to have a very exciting year.
Class of 2010 Community Service

Class of 2010
At the end of the spring semester, our class was busy with various community service activities. Students assisted health care professionals with cholesterol screenings at The Center for Closing the Health Gap's fifth annual Health Expo. In April, students, faculty, friends and family who attended Autism Speaks' Walk Now for Autism event at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens donated more than $2,000.
This fall, our class has been involved with painting the OB clinic at Mercy Hospital Anderson, volunteering one hour per week at Ann Weigel Elementary School to help with math and reading comprehension skills, and participating in Cincinnati Walks for Kids. Collections are already underway for our annual Christmas Adopt-a-Family project, benefitting a larger family this year.
