Community Service Update
Jackie Lucas and Megan Johnston
Community Service Chairs
Over the spring semester, several students served as volunteers for Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. We're also getting ready to participate in several upcoming events, including the Crosstown Helpout, the 2009 dance event with United Cerebral Palsy sponsored by Xavier University's Graduate Student Association, and Walk Now for Autism.
Additionally, we're working on organizing a volleyball tournament in the fall. This tournament will be a competition between various graduate programs of the University, and all proceeds will benefit Operation Smile.

"My vision for the Class of 2011 is to unite all of the diverse talents each classmate brings to our program. I hope to create an environment that inspires the class to achieve their optimum educational experience at Xavier and to cherish it throughout their healthcare career."
"As treasurer, my goal is to properly manage our student funds so that they will be used responsibly for the good of the class and to provide leadership where needed."
"I feel my responsibility is to inspire my classmates to contribute to the community. I try to be a resource for my classmates and encourage participation in community activities. We have an opportunity to make a real difference."
"A part of our vision is to reach out to other departments and tie the student health care community together for common goals. After all, no health-related organization runs on nurses, occupational therapists, or administrators alone to make the communities we serve healthier, we're all in this together."
"What intrigued me about HASPS is the opportunity to create a place where students can dialogue with other students and professionals. I believe that one of the keys to a successful career is the ability to communicate effectively and to have as many channels of communication as possible."
