On August 18, 2011, the Health Services Administration Department welcomed another round of eager students to the Xavier community. The twenty-four men and women who make up the class of 2014, along with the seven part-time students, come from diverse backgrounds earning a variety of undergraduate degrees at 17 different institutions.

Whether they’re continuing their education from undergraduate school, or pursuing a career change, each member of the class of 2014 is here for one reason: to become future leaders in the ever-changing world of healthcare.

After working in another field, Kelsey Hofacer decided she wanted a career that was more fulfilling. That’s when she discovered Xavier’s MHSA program. “The MHSA program is giving me the opportunity to change careers and enter a field that is undergoing monumental change.”

So why did she choose Xavier? The internship opportunities, the program’s reputation and the experience of the professors, she says. “The culture at Xavier is much different, as there is an emphasis on the individual,” explains Hofacer. “The professors are genuinely interested in my success, actually know my name, and are willing to work with me on personal level.”
