MHSA Community Service Update
Chelsea Holland and Andrea Manis - Class of 2014 Community Service Liaisons
Chelsea Holland and Andrea Manis, first year students, will be replacing Nicole DiLabbio and Marc Roderick as community service chairs. They will be coordinating new community service events for the MHSA graduate program until January 2013.
This spring, the Class of 2014 participated in Xavier University’s Relay for Life. The students participated in the Luminaria Ceremony in order to honor loved ones. The Luminaria Ceremony includes the lighting of candles in honor of those who are currently fighting cancer or who have fought cancer.
For next fall, the Class of 2014 is planning a community service work day for both the 1st year and 2nd year classes to participate in. The community service work day is planned to occur in the first two weeks of school so the 1st and 2nd year classes can get to know one another. An idea generated for this event includes working in a community garden close to Xavier University’s campus. Additionally, another event Chelsea and Andrea are considering planning is The Reggae Run in Mt. Lookout, which is a 5K run to honor Maria Christine Olberding. The Reggae Run benefits The Make a Wish Foundation and other non-profit organizations that help children with special needs in the Cincinnati Area.
