Nearly 80 people gathered to honor Susan Fuehrer as the 2012 Outstanding Preceptor of the Year. Mrs. Fuehrer is currently the Medical Center Director at the Louis B. Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland, and has been a part of the VA Medical Center, taking on a number of different job titles, for more than 27 years. During this time, she has served as preceptor to eleven Xavier students, one of whom is currently completing her residency under Mrs. Fuehrer’s guidance.
Instead of the usual cocktail hour and dinner at an off-campus location, the advisory board decided to hold both their annual board meeting and Preceptor of the Year Luncheon in the Schiff Family Conference Center, right in the heart of Xavier’s campus. After lunch, Dr. Nancy Linenkugel presented the award to Mrs. Fuehrer, who thanked everyone involved, including her residents. “The students give me more than I could ever give them. That is why I am a preceptor,” Fuehrer said.
Mrs. Fuehrer earned her degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of New Hampshire. She is also a graduate of the Case Western Reserve University with a Masters in Business Administration. Mrs. Fuehrer is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives as well as the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.
