Notes

  • A 2.000 cumulative average must be attained in these mathematics and computer science courses.
  • As a part of the 9-hr Science requirement for the core, students must choose any two of the following lecture-lab pairs: BIOL 160-161, BIOL 162-163, CHEM 160-161, CHEM 162-163, PHYS 161-170, and PHYS 163-172.
  • Students are required to complete the MFT (Major Field Test) in Mathematics
  • Senior project presented to the faculty of the department.
  • The mathematics electives should be chosen under the guidance of the student's advisor.  Any student wishing to major in mathematics should consult the chair of the department before registration.

Mathematics Minor

  • The mathematics minor requires 20 credit hours of mathematics courses, including MATH 170 and 171 (Calculus I and II), MATH 225 (Foundations of Higher Mathematics), and at least nine additional elective hours selected from MATH 220-399.
  • Students must select their additional mathematics course work under the guidance of a faculty advisor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.
  • Students must maintain a 2.000 cumulative grade point average in these courses.

Statistics Minor

  • The statistics minor requires 20 credit hours of courses, including 17 hours of mathematics courses from MATH 170 and 171 (Calculus I and II), MATH 256 (Introduction to Probability and Statistics), MATH 311 (Probability), and MATH 312 (Statistical Inference).
  • Students must select 3 additional credit hours as approved by department under the guidance of a faculty advisor, including MATH 257 (Data Modeling); ECON 350 (Business Cycles and Forecasting), ECON 410 (Empirical Analysis in Economics); or INFO 329 (Data Mining).
  •  Students must maintain a 2.000 cumulative grade point average in these courses.
  • The Statistics Minor is available to all undergraduates.  For students majoring in Mathematics, at most two of the Statistics Minor courses numbered 220 or higher may count towards the requirements of the B.S. Mathematics Degree.
