2. Why is plagiarism wrong and what are the consequences of plagiarism?

a. Why is plagiarism wrong?

  • It takes away from another's original work.
  • The student who plagiarizes has an unfair advantage over the student who does his or her own work.
  • Rampant plagiarism in an institution of higher learning devalues the worth of the institution's diploma.
  • Students who plagiarize hurt themselves because they do not learn the process of academic achievement.
