3A. How can Plagiarism be avoided?

Give credit to your research by citing your sources.

  • A citation gives credit to the source of your information.
  • A citation helps others find the source of your information.

Citations are found in:

  • Bibliographies: A list of the sources used in writing a paper. Included are the author, title, place of publication, publisher, date of publication.
  • Footnotes
  • Endnotes
  • In-text notes: Footnotes, endnotes, and in-text notes indicate the source for a statement in the text of the paper. Footnotes appear at the bottom of the page they refer to. Endnotes are listed at the end of the paper. In-text notes are placed within the text.
