These five library tutorials will help you to do research more effectively, saving you time. Hopefully, they will also help you obtain higher grades on research projects.

Order: For best results, please do the tutorials in following order:

Completion time: Each tutorial takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Navigation: There are between 9 to 18 pages in each tutorial. Page through the tutorials using the next>> button, located in the bottom right hand corner of each page. Return to previous pages as often as you wish, using the <<backbutton located in the bottom left hand corner of each page. You may also use the menu on the right hand side of each xu.tutor page.

Glossary links: A glossary is provided to define unfamiliar terms. Glossary terms are in red boldface; e.g., authority control. When you click a glossary term a small window opens displaying the definition. It is essential that you click the <<close window>> hot spot before clicking another link.

Example links: Example links open small windows displaying database features and other information. Most of these are in blue boldface; e.g., example. Again, it is essential that you click the <<close window>> hot spot before clicking another link.

Video clip links: Video clip links show a short movie demonstrating the concept being explained. Links to video clips are in gold boldface, e.g. video clip The movie will close automatically at the end.

Demos: Demos provide an interactive search experience using the following databases:

  • Academic Search Premier, a general database
  • Business Source Premier, a business database
  • ERIC, an education database
  • PsycINFO, a psychology database

Demo links are in green boldface; e.g., demo adoption search in Academic Search Premier.. When you click a demo link the resulting screen is divided into two frames. Follow the instructions in the left frame while typing responses in the right frame. The right frame actually displays a "live" database. Please be patient as it may take a couple of minutes for the database to load. Please complete all demos. When finished do not log out. Click the <<back button to return to xu.tutor.

Off-campus access: If you are doing these tutorials off-campus (at home, at work, etc.), the demos will require authentication.

  • First you will be asked to type your last name as it appears on your All Card.
  • Second, you will be asked to type your 14-digit ID number as it appears on the bottom of your All Card.
