14. Finding articles in journals, magazines, and newspapers

Use research databases to find articles in journals, magazines, and newspapers.

When your search results appear on the screen, there are three ways to find the full-text: electronically, in paper, or through the Document Delivery Service.

Electronically

  1. Click the icon to go to a link to the article (example) or (example).
  2. Click the icon to go to a link to the journal and then search for the article (example).
  3. Click the PDF Full Text icon or link within the database (example).
  4. Click on the HTML Full Text link within the database (example).

In Paper

If there are no holdings offered via , you can click the link to XPLORE to see if a paper copy is available (example). You can then either view the article in paper or click on the Document Delivery/Annex Article Request Form to request an electronic copy of the paper article.

Document Delivery Services

If there are no electronic copies of the article, click the link to the Document Delivery Request Form. Submit your request and the article will be sent to you electronically through your Xavier email (example).

If you have a citation that did not come from your database search, click the icon to find the article electronically. The icon is located in the Quick Links section under the Journals tab on the library's homepage (example). Click the icon and then type in the journal title. You will be provided with a list of databases which have rights to full-text access of that journal and the years of access (video clip).

If the journal is not available electronically, you will be told that 0 records have been retrieved for this search (example). Click the link to Document Delivery/Annex Article Request Form (example) and type in your citation information. Submit the form and the article will be sent to you electronically through your Xavier email.

If XPLORE gives the result that your journal is available in the annex (example) or in microform/fiche (example), fill out the Document Delivery/Annex Article Request Form and the article will be sent to you electronically.
