are the boundaries of your search. For example, you can search
for journal articles only in the English language or only
published in the last five years. |

are used to control the order of searching in a database.
If you use parenthesis around a phrase including an AND, OR,
NOT statement that phrase will be searched for first before
the other searching is done. |

that are peer reviewed are scholarly journals. All articles
in the journal have been reviewed by experts in the field
before they have been accepted for publication. |

operators are words like NEAR or ADJ or W/. They allow you
to specify within a keyword search that you would like two
words to be near each other. It is a way of narrowing your
search and making it more precise. For example, "speaker
NEAR house" could be used to search for Speaker of the

some databases, quotation marks are used to search for a
phrase such as "high school students", rather
than searching for the individual words.
