xu.tutor: Evaluating Websites

3. Evaluation criteria

Information found on the web should be evaluated using the same criteria used to evaluate traditional information resources:

  • Accuracy
  • Authority
  • Objectivity
  • Currency
  • Coverage

The difference between traditional resources and the web is that you need to do all of the evaluating. Unlike traditional publishers, there are no peer reviewers, editors, or fact-checkers for most websites. You must evaluate each web resource individually.
