Works that are not "fixed in a tangible medium," such as:
- Impromptu speeches
- Singing in the shower
- Choreography that has not been notated or filmed

Factual and commonly-known information:
- Weights and measures
- Addresses
- Dates
|
|
Ideas, concepts, slogans, and inventions - although some of these are protected by patents or trademarks |
|
Works in the public domain:
- Works published before 1923 in the United States
- Works for which the copyright term has expired without renewal
- Works the author has intentionally placed in the public domain
- Works that are products of the U. S. government
