26 Steps to Infromation Fluency

Step 10: Off-Campus Access to Library Resources

You have learned how to access MyXU, Blackboard, and your Xavier email account. You probably noticed that you are able to use one user name and password get into all of three of these resources.

To access library resources (research databases, electronic books and full-text journal articles) from off-campus locations (at work, at home, etc.) you will need to further authenticate yourself with information found on your ALL Card. To satisfy this step you will need to complete the following tasks:

  1. Read through this webpage.
  2. Now get out your ALL Card and try it.
    1. As example click this link to one of the library's subscription databases: Academic Search Complete (a popular general purpose database).
    2. Enter just your last name in the first textbox.
    3. Enter the 14-digit ID number on the bottom of your ALL Card. Be sure to include any leading zeros.
    4. If this does not work, call the Reference Desk at 513 745-4808 and they will troubleshoot your problem.
    5. It is very important that you resolve any problems you have completing this step as further steps will require you perform the authentication procedure successfully.
