26 Steps to Infromation Fluency

Step 22: Finding Media

Many professors assign multimedia projects - projects that include images, audio and video as well as text. The library has created a media guide for every academic program at Xavier. This guide lists all of the databases that have media. To satisfy this step complete the following tasks:

  1. Go to the library's homepage at http://www.xavier.edu/library/
  2. Under the Welcome tab, in the Quick Links section, click Xtreme Subject Guides.
  3. Click the down arrow in the Select an Academic Program textbox and select a program that provides the focus for one of your classes.
  4. The resulting Xtreme Subject Guide will contain a media guide.
  5. Click the media guide to see the list of databases that contain media.
  6. Find a database that contains images.
  7. Find an image in the database.
  8. Save the image to your desktop.
  9. The method for saving/downloading images varies with each database. Clicking links that say "download" and right-clicking the image are typical methods.
  10. Create a new entry in your Blackboard e-portfolio (Expo Directory).
  11. Upload or insert the image into your new Blackboard e-portfolio entry.
  12. To insert the image into your e-portfolio entry use the icon file and follow your on-screen instructions.
  13. If you need help with e-portfolio refer to these instructions.
