  Step 12: Finding Media

Many professors assign multimedia projects - projects that include images, audio and video as well as text. The library has created a media guide for every academic program at Xavier. This guide lists all of the databases that have media. To satisfy this step complete the following tasks:

  1. Go to the library's homepage at http://www.xavier.edu/library/
  2. Under the Subject Guides tab, click the down arrow in the Select a Guide textbox and select a program that provides the focus for one of your classes.
  3. The resulting Subject Guide will contain a Media Guide.
  4. Click the media guide to see the list of databases that contain media.
  5. Find a database that contains images.
  6. Find an image in the database.
  7. Save the image to your desktop.
  8. The method for saving/downloading images varies with each database. Clicking links that say "download" and right-clicking the image are typical methods.
  9. Create a new Word document.
  10. Upload or insert the image into your new Word document.
