Step 10: Finding Journals & Interlibrary Loan

Sometimes you discover the articles you want in a bibliography at the end of a book, book chapter, or another article. This is a perfectly legitimate way to do research. To get a copy of these articles you need to find the journals in which the articles appear. Use the following process to check the availability of a journal.

  1. Before you get started review the anatomy of a citation.
  2. Open or print this Microsoft Word document that contains a bibliography of 6 articles.
  3. Print these instructions.
  4. Locate all 6 of these articles.
  5. Be sure to check the dates of your article against the dates of available full-text.
  6. For each of the 6 citations in this bibliography determine the method you need to use to obtain a "hard" copy of the article: Online Full-Text or Interlibrary Loan
  7. Follow the links all the way to the full-text (if available) of the article.
