Xavier University Library: 26 Steps to Information Fluency: Step 7: Discussion Boards

A discussion board is an online forum for holding discussions and posting content by discussion board participants. Discussion boards are also called web forums, message boards, discussion groups, or discussion forums. A sense of virtual community often develops around discussion boards that have regular users. Messages in discussion boards are displayed either in chronological order or as threaded discussions.

You will use the discussion board in Blackboard, Xavier's course management system, to satisfy this step. complete the following tasks:

Go to Blackboard at http://blackboard.xu.edu/.
Enter your login and password.
Click one of your courses.
Once in the course, click Communication. This is below all of the left menu items under Tools.
Then click Discussion Board in the right frame.
If this course uses the Discussion Board feature you may see a list of forums. If not, you will only see the Add Forum button.
Do one of the following to satisfy this step:
1. Click the Add Forum button and create a new forum OR
2. Click one of the forums in the list and
  1. Click the Add New Thread button and add a thread OR
  2. Click one of the existing threads and click the Reply button to enter a reply.
