Access to Library Resources and Services are available for Xavier University undergraduate students and may require your MyXU portal user name and password and/or your Xavier ID (ALL Card). Please review the library's Notice of Responsible Use.

Borrowing privilegesborrowing Services are available for materials in the XPLORE and OhioLINK library catalogs. XPLORE is Xavier's library catalog and OhioLINK is the combined library catalog for about 85 academic and public libraries in the State of Ohio. These materials may be requested online (help requesting). See borrowing privileges for information about loan periods, renewals, loan limits, overdue fines and replacement charges. XPLORE materials are picked up and returned to the circulation desk in Xavier's library; OhioLINK materials may be picked up and returned to Xavier or to another OhioLINK library more convenient for you (pickup anywhere help). If materials are overdue, it is more cost efficient to return them to Xavier's library. For materials not available through Xavier or OhioLINK see document delivery services.

Education Services include library instruction, orientations and tours arranged by your professor and the library. Research consultations are available Friday afternoons from 3-5pm with the librarian on duty at the research help desk, or make an appointment at a time convenient for you with the librarian liaison for your course.

Electronic Collections, such as research databases, electronic full-text journals, electronic books, and the library 's online catalog, XPLORE, may be accessed in the library and from on- and off-campus locations. See also Circulation Services.

Electronic Reserves (http://library.xu.edu/) is available with a password for both on-and off-campus locations. If you do not know your password, contact the research help desk at 513 745-4808 (hours).

Equipment & Supplies, such as computer workstations, wireless laptops, cameras, printers, scanners, microform reader/printers, audiovisual equipment, typewriter, microscopes and Elison Die, are accessible in the library at no charge. The following services have nominal charges:

  • Laminator - $1/foot of laminating material
  • Photocopiers-10¢/page

For computer workstations and wireless laptops, log into computer workstations using your MyXU, capmus portal, user name and password; log out of the computer when you are finished using it, so that the next person to use that workstation does not have access to your files.

Help A to Z provides online help for many library resources and services.

Interlibrary Loan Services may be used to request materials not available in the library's collections, including electronic collections, or through OhioLINK. These services may also be used to request articles only available in the library's print journal collection and materials in the library's annex. These services are available at no charge and are accessible through ILLiad. ILLIad requires users to set up an account. Notices for the arrival of interlibrary loan materials are sent to the address you supplied in your ILLiad account. For many journal articles the email notice will provide a password and link to the full-text of the article.

Internet Access is available at library public workstations and laptops. Wireless access with a personal laptop is also available. Ask at the Connection Center Desk for more information about wireless access.

Print & Audiovisual Collections may be browsed in the library or accessed online through the XPLORE Library Catalog. See also Circulation Services.

Research Help:

RefWorks is an online bibliographic management service that permits you to create a database of references from search results in online research databases. In-text citations and and bibliographies are automatically formatted with the click of a button in a citation style of your choosing. For more information, view our RefWorks help page or contact Marcia Poggione at 513 745-3971 or poggione@xavier.edu.

Traditional Reserves is accessible from XPLORE by professor or course name. These materials must be picked up and returned to the circulation desk in the library. Some of these materials must be used only in the library. For information about loan periods, hourly overdue fines and replacement charges, see your borrowing privileges.

TurnItIn (http://turnitin.com/) is the library's plagiarism prevention and detection service. Your professor will let you know if this service will be a part of your course. For help using this service, contact Michelle Early at 513 745-4817 or early@xavier.edu.

Subject Guides group library resources by subject which help you to find articles in research databases, books, journals, media, websites, a librarian liaison and context-specific help in a specific academic discipline.

xu.tutor, the library's online tutorials, will help you define a research topic, optimize search strategies, identify useful sources, evaluate websites, prevent plagiarism, and find library materials.
