Data & Statistics

Business and Company Resource Center (1980-present; XLinks) contains detailed company and industry news and information. It is a fully integrated resource that brings together company profiles, brand information, rankings, investment reports, company histories, chronologies, and periodicals. It includes Market Share Reporter, Ward's Business Directory and numerous other directories and encyclopedias. It is produced by Thomson/Gale and the user interface is provided by InfoTrac. This subscription permits only two simultaneous users.

Business and Industry (1994-July 2006; much full-text; RefWorks help; video tutorial) covers company, product, and industry information, including manufacturing and service industries. It is produced by Thompson/Gale and the user interface is provided by OhioLINK. See Business Source Complete for more up-to-date information.

Business Source Complete (some from 1886-present; updated daily; much full-text; video tutorials; RefWorks help; XLinks) provides indexing and abstracts for the most important scholarly business journals. It contains far more peer-reviewed, business-related journals than any other database currently available. It contains searchable cited references for 1,200 journals and 20,000 detailed author profiles. It covers all subject areas related to business, including management, marketing, economics, finance, accounting, and international business. Additional full text, non-journal content includes financial data, books, major reference works, book digests, conference proceedings, case studies, investment research reports, product reviews, industry profiles (Datamonitor reports), market research reports, country reports, company profiles (including Life Science Analytics (LSA) company profiles from the MedTRACK database),and SWOT analyses. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by EBSCO Publishing.

Demographics Now (all full-text; data) allows users to analyze the demographic and market potential of any geographic area in the U.S. It creates summary, comparison, ranking and radius-based reports by geographic area. Summary reports contain multiple user-defined variables for a single geographic area; comparison reports offer side-by-side comparisons of up to 16 geographic areas; ranking reports rank multiple geographic areas by the performance of specific user-defined variables such as gender, income, employment, housing value or household composition; radius reports makes it possible to summarize the entire area of a given radius or to compare multiple radii. Reports can be emailed or printed as an HTML page or PDF file. It also generates interactive and radius-based maps. It is produced by Thomson Gale and the user interface by SRC. Gartner Group Data is a source of business and technology intelligence and includes global market knowledge for the IT and telecom industries. It helps channel strategies, differentiate products, assess competitors, and sharpen forecasts about market size and market share. This database is licensed for only Xavier faculty, staff and students. It requires your Novell network username and password.

Historic Maps of Akron and Summit County (XLinks) is a part of OhioLINK's Digital Media Center and contains maps of Akron and Summit County, Ohio. This resource provides page images of three atlases, totalling 514 views. It includes the Atlas and Industrial Geography of Summit County (1910) by Rectigraph Abstract & Title Company; Combination Atlas Map of Summit County, Ohio (1874) by Tackabury, Mead & Moffett, publishers; and Illustrated Summit County, Ohio 1891 by Akron Map & Atlas Co. It was contributed by the University of Akron Libraries and the user interface is provided by OhioLINK.

Historical Statistics of the United States (most from 1800s-1990s; full-text essays & introductions; downloadable data) provides quantitative data on population, work & welfare, economic structure & performance, economic sectors, and governance & international relations. It covers social, behavioral, humanistic, and natural sciences including history, economics, government, finance, sociology, demography, education, law, natural resources, climate, religion, international migration, and trade. It permits users to search and download data as well as create customized tables, spreadsheets and graphs. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Cambridge University Press.

IFS (International Financial Statistics) (time series from 1948-present; all full-text) provides statistics on all aspects of international and domestic finance. It provides tabular data that can be displayed in spreadsheet format. It includes exchange rates, liquidity, money, banking, interest rates, prices, production, transactions, balance of payments, investment position, government finance, and national accounts. It is produced by the International Monetary Fund. This subscription is limited to 5 simultaneous users.

LexisNexis Statistical Publications & DataSets (exportable data; users guide) includes datasets from many sources, including the US government, international organizations, and the private sector. It covers all subject areas, including banking and finance, criminal justice and law, education, energy resources and demand, food and agriculture, government and politics, health and vital statistics, housing and construction, industry and commerce, international; labor and employment, natural resources and environment, population and income, prices and cost of living, stocks and commodities, and transportation and travel. Users can search datasets by keyword; browse datasets by subject or source; display datasets by trend, map or ranking; and output datasets in print, PDF, delimited, Excel or SAS formats. Datasets can be limited by date and geographic area (country, state, county). Years available varies by dataset; for example, births 1999-present and breast cancer 1973-present. It also features datasets currently in the news, such as crude oil price, 30-year fixed mortgage rate, airline on-time arrival rate, campaign contributions for both Obama and McCain, gasoline prices, the prime rate and the unemployment rate. Mergent Online (all full-text), formerly FIS Online, includes EDGAR documents, financial reports, industry reports by country, country profiles, company news and Moody's securities data. Industry reports include Asia Pacific, Europe and Latin American countries as well as those in North America. Each country's industry report includes a sector overview, leading companies, market outlook, sector performance, and mergers and acquisitions. Advanced searching permits users to target US, international, or private companies. It provides the ability to export company reports and financial data into Microsoft Excel, to search across multiple databases on different variables, and to compare reports of multiple companies. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Mergent.

Mediamark Reporter (all full-text; tutorial and registration; reading reports), formerly called Internet Reporter, provides comprehensive data on the uses of various consumer products, including Teenmark reports. The studies include demographic information on the persons surveyed, their use of consumer products, and their use of various forms of advertising, including television, radio, and print media. It is produced by Mediamark Research, Inc. (MRI). Users have to register first and are then sent an email message with a validation link. Please use your Xavier email address when registering. This subscription is limited to 10 simultaneous users.

Research Insight (campus only database; all full-text; tutorials for industry ratios & company reports), formerly Compustat, provides financial, statistical, and market data for U.S. and Canadian companies, business segments, geographic areas, and industry composites. It only includes information for publicly traded companies, both current and historical. It porvides 10 years of daily stock price data. Data can be exported and imported into MS Excel and is compatible with MS Vista & Office 2007. Produced by and the user interface provided by Standard & Poors. Users can access from any computer workstation (except laptops) in the library or in academic computing labs by clicking START | All Programs | Library Campus Databases.

SRDS Media Solutions provides full-text directory information for companies and contacts. It includes advertising rates for more than 100,000 media properties, updating more than 21,000 listings each month; and demographic market profiles for the TV and cable section. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by SRDS.

Standard & Poors NetAdvantage (all full-text) is a resource for investment research and commentary. It includes Industry Surveys , Stock Reports, Mutual Fund Reports, Bond Reports, Corporation Records, The Register of Corporations, Directors and Executives, and The Outlook (1996-present). It contains news, credit ratings, indices, risk evaluation, investment research, data and valuations. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Standard & Poors.

STAT-USA (all full-text) provides business, economic and trade information from the Federal government. The State of the Nation section provides current and historical economic and financial data. The GLOBUS & NTDB section provides current and historical trade-related releases, international market research, trade opportunities, country analysis, and the National Trade Data Bank (NTDB). It is produced by and the user interface is provided by U.S. Department of Commerce.

Thomson ONE Banker (updated monthly; all full-text), formerly Thomson Research, Global Access, Disclosure and Compact Disclosure, this database provides research reports from over 980 leading firms and covers over 30,000 companies worldwide. It includes company profiles and spreadsheet-ready financials designed to your specifications. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Thomson Financial. Value Line Research Center (updated weekly; all full-text) includes access to leading investment publications covering stocks, mutual funds, daily options and convertible securities as well as special situation stocks. It contains ratings and reports on 1,700 companies and more than 90 industries, including stock rankings, screens, statistics, and the latest economic and market forecasts. ebrary (all full-text; XLinks) contains about 32,300 electronic books in business, marketing, economics, computers, information technology, health, biomedical sciences, clinical sciences, engineering, technology, life sciences, physical sciences, education, history, humanities, law, international relations, public policy, social sciences, and behavioral sciences. It includes books in the Vault Career Library. Users can search for words in the subject, title or full-text of books in this collection. Content can be easily copied and pasted into a word processing document. Books in this collection are protected by copyright laws and there are limitations on the number of pages that can be printed and copied. It is compiled by and the user interface is provided by ebrary. Users can also find these electronic books in XPLORE, the library's online catalog. The ebrary Reader is required to view, copy and print pages in a book. Click the ebrary Reader icon or link to download the reader. The reader will install and display your ebook. Monthly system maintenance is performed the first Tuesday of each month from 8-10pm (Pacific Time) during which ebrary may be unavailable.

It covers latest spots, breaking news, opinion, AdCritic top 20, anniversary top 50, music, events (Super Bowl, Cannes Festival), no-spot film festival, production preview, who did that spot, images & footage, location scout, and features from the editorial staff of Creativity Magazine published by Advertising Age Group. Educational Films and Documentaries (XLinks), formerly the Digital Video Collection, is part of OhioLINK's Digital Media Center and contains 1,976 full-length educational films and documentaries covering a wide variety of subjects. The collection currently includes videos from two distributors: Ambrose Video and Films for the Humanities & Sciences. Real Media Player or Real Media Alternative is required to view videos. It is compiled by and the user interface is provided by OhioLINK.

XPLORE Library Catalog (tips & tricks; RefWorks help; XLinks; video tutorials) is Xavier library's online public access catalog. It includes all of the library's books, journals, audiovisuals, and microform materials. Search XPLORE by keyword, author, title and Library of Congress subject heading. If you don't find what you need, request it online (printable instructions; video tutorial) from OhioLINK, the combined library catalog of 84 colleges and universities in the State of Ohio.
