LibrarY Liaison Program

Description

Each librarian at Xavier University Library has liaison responsibilities to several academic departments. Each academic department at Xavier University names a departmental liaison to the library.

Purpose

The purpose of this program is to enhance communication between academic departments and the library in order to facilitate collection development, instruction services and the library's information fluency initiative. In addition, librarian liaisons provide consultation services for students writing research papers, theses or dissertations.

What Your Library Liaison Can Do for You

  • Share information about library services and resources.
  • Assist with acquisitions and collection development.
  • Serve as a primary contact for library instruction.
  • Provide an initial contact for for library questions or problems.
  • Attend departmental meetings to announce changes in library services and resources.
  • Provide one-on-one orientation for new faculty members.
  • Notify your department of new resources and services through an email distribution list.
  • Review your department's monthly acquisition budget reports and remind you of pertinent deadlines.
  • Consult appropriate reviewing sources to suggest books to order for your department.
  • Gather information about new areas of research, courses, and programs in your department.
  • Provide orientations for new students in your department.
  • Provide general, course-specific, or assignment-specific instruction for students taking courses in your department.
  • Embed library resources and services into course management systems.
  • Provide consultation services for students writing research papers, theses or dissertations.
  • Contact faculty that have problem assisgnments and suggest instruction.
  • Offer demos and workshops of new resources and services of interest to your department.
  • Participate in information fluency programs and workshops, assisting faculty to incorporate new library technologies into their courses and assignments.
