These instructions assume that you have already downloaded citations into RefWorks and now want to put those citations into a Microsoft word document.

From the library's homepage under the Welcome! tab, click RefWorks.

At the RefWorks User Login page:
- Enter your login name.
- Enter your password.
- Click Login.
NOTE: If you are in an off-campus location, you will be asked for a Group Code. Call the reference desk at 513 745-4808 to obtain this information.

- Click Tools on the RefWorks menu bar.
- Click Write-N-Cite from the drop-down menu..

- The Download Write-N-Cite page appears.
- Click the Click here link to start downloading Write-N-Cite.

- The File Download box appears.
- Select Save.

- The Save As window will appear.
- Select Desktop in the Save in: box
- The File name: box shows the file wncinstall.exe
- The Save as type: box shows Application
- Click Save.

- The Download Complete box appears.
- Click Open.

- TheWrite-N-Cite Setup program window will open.
- Click Next.

- The Destination Location Box appears
- Browse for a Destination Folder only if you are not happy with the default choice.
- Click Next.

- The Start Installation box appears
- Click Next.

- The Write-N-Cite has been successfully installed message appears
- Click Finish.

- The Install box appears
- If you are in a public lab at the university, click cancel
- Click OK if you are on your own home computer.

Open up Microsoft Word

The Write-N-Cite button should now be visible in the top right-hand corner of the toolbar.

You are now ready to insert citations into your Word document.
- Move the cursor to the part of the document where you want to insert the citation.
- Click the Write-N-Cite button at the top of the page.

At the RefWorks User Login page:
- Enter your login name.
- Enter your password.
- Click Login.

If RefWorks is open, the Write-N-Cite box appears.
- Scroll down the list of references until you find the citation that you want to add to your paper.
- Click Cite (only once) beside the citation you want.

Go back to your Word document.
- Note that the citation has now been entered in the correct place with a double set of curly brackets.
- Continue through the document adding citations as needed.

When you have added all the citations, go to the Write-N-Cite box.
- Click Bibliography.

- The Bibliography page opens.
- Click the down arrow in the Output Format drop-down box.
- Select the citation style you want to use from the drop-down list.

- Click Create Bibliography.

Wait while RefWorks processes your bibliography.

You will receive a manuscript completion message.

You will see that you now have two Word documents. Your original Word document and a Word document whose name begins with the word Final.

Open the final Word document.
- The curly brackets for the citations have now disappeared and the correct form of in-text citations now display.

Your bibliography is at the end of the final Word document. Save the final document if it is complete. The final document is the one you would submit to your professor.

However, make all changes to your original Word document, regenerate your bibliography and re-create the final Word document.
