netLibrary is a collection of electronic books and audiobooks on many academic subjects. The collection includes more than 15,400 eBook titles, some purchased by the library and some in the public domain, as well as more than 1,200 eAudiobooks. Users can preview netLibrary eBooks online, peruse a page, read each page in depth, jump to specific chapters or pages, or use links in the Table of Content or Index to go directly to specific chapters of interest. Every word in an eBook is searchable.
Users can download eAudiobooks to a personal computer workstation and listen to them using Microsoft Windows Media Player version 9 or above, Musicmatch Jukebox v8.2 or above, or Nullsoft Winamp v5 or above. After downloading an audiobook, users can also transfer them to a personal portable listening device (supported portable listening devices). A maximum of 10 eAudiobooks can be downloaded on your netLibrary account. eAudiobooks expire in 21 days; however, they can be renewed for an additional 21 days. To renew eAudiobooks access your netLibrary account.

All Xavier students, faculty and staff can access netLibrary resources in XPLORE, the library's online catalog. You can also access netLibrary resources from the library's homepage:
You can browse netLibrary eBooks for 15 minutes without setting up an account. Establishing an account while at an on-campus computer workstation allows you to check out an eBook for 2 hours or to access it from off-campus locations. You must also set up an account while at an on-campus computer workstation to download eAudiobooks to your personal computer at home. Just click the Create a Free Account link in the top right corner of the netLibrary homepage.
Each time you wish to check out a netLibrary eBook, access it off-campus or download an eAudiobook, you must first log in. If you have just created a new account, you will be logged into the netLibrary collection automatically. If you created a new account in the past, just click the Log In link in the top right corner of the netLibrary homepage.
netLibrary resources are integrated into Xavier's online catalog, XPLORE. After you perform a title, author, keyword or subject search you can limit your results to only netLibrary eBooks or eAudiobooks. Click the Modify Search button from the top menu in XPLORE. This gives you the option to select the Location, Electronic Book or Electronic Audiobook.
Use the Keyword Search box located at the top right of your browser window on netLibrary's main navigation bar. A keyword search allows you to search for a word or phrase in the title, author, Library of Congress subject heading, publisher, and ISBN fields. To perform a keyword search, enter the search term. Note: to do a phrase search, submit your search in quotes for example, small business. Click the Go button to display your earch results.
To perform a more advanced search, fill in any or all of the fields that appear on the netLibrary home page including title, author, subject, keywords, full text, publisher, pub year, and ISBN. Note: to do a phrase search, submit your search in quotes for example, small business. Click the red Search button to display search results.
To check out a netLibrary eBook, you must first log in. Checking out a book gives you exclusive use of the book for 2 hours. The book is automatically "returned" when the checkout period expires. How to check out a netLibrary eBook:
- Search for a netLibrary eBook.
- Click the eBook title from your search results to
display the eBook's Summary page.
- Select the Check out and read online link. This option automatically checks out the title and places it on your eBookshelf. (To access your eBookshelf, you must be logged in. You can either select the eBookshelf link on the right side of the screen or the eBookshelf button located on the navigation bar at the top of the netLibrary home page.)
- Find the eAudiobook you want to listen to and then simply click the Download this Audiobook link.
- Your screen will display two checkout and download options. If you are going to transfer your audiobook to a personal portable listening device, click the Checkout & Download CD Quality option. Radio quality, the option that is a smaller file and takes less time to download, is for listening to the eAudiobook on your personal computer workstation.
- Click Download CD Quality.
- In the File Download window, click Save.
- In the Save As window, save the file to your Desktop.
- You have to keep the download progress window open while you download the eAudiobook. You can, however, minimize this window and work on other things while the file downloads. Depending on the length of the eAudiobook and the speed of your Internet connection, this could take as little time as 30 minutes or as long as an hour or more.
- The download progress window will let you know when the download is complete and you can then close the window.
- Double click the downloaded file to listen to your eAudiobook on your personal computer workstation using Windows Media Player version 9 or above, Musicmatch Jukebox v8.2 or above, or Nullsoft Winamp v5 or above.
(supported portable listening devices)
- Find your CD quality downloaded eAudiobook file on your desktop and double click it to open it with Windows Media Player version 9 or above, Musicmatch Jukebox v8.2 or above, or Nullsoft Winamp v5 or above. Opening the eAudiobook automatically obtains the license from netLibrary to allow the eAudiobook file to play.
- Select Copy to CD or Device from the media player's menu options. A list of available titles will be displayed in the Items to Copy frame.
- Select the title you wish to download by clicking on the check box.
- Select a target device from the Items on Device drop-down menu. Click the Copy button to transfer the title.
- The media player will transfer the file to your portable listening device (supported portable listening devices). When the transfer is complete, disconnect your portable listening device and enjoy your netLibrary eAudiobook.
- Some portable listening devices will need to use the Safely Remove Hardware icon (on the taskbar) before removing the USB cable or an error will occur.
