These instructions were created in Windows XP. Other operating systems may have different window names or look slightly different. These instructions assume that you have searched a Thomson-Gale database and have a list of results.
Exporting References from a Thomson-Gale Database
- Search for a topic.
- Click the item you want in your search results; for example, a journal or newspaper article.

At the record for the item you want, go to the Tools area.

Click Citation Tools in the Tools area.

A new window will pop up. Go to the Export to third party software area.

Click the RefWorks radio button.

Click the Export button.

- A RefWorks Launched window will open.
- You may see a Pop-up blocked bar in this window.
- If you do, right-click the Pop-up blocked bar.
- In your menu selections, click Always allow pop-ups from this site. NOTE: after allowing pop-ups you may have to go back to the previous EXPORT window and re-submit your citation.

Importing References into RefWorks
The RefWorks User Login page will open
- Enter your login name.
- Enter your password.
- Click Login.
NOTE: If you are in an off-campus location, you will be asked for a Group Code. Call the reference desk at 513 745-4808 to obtain this information.

The RefWorks Import page will open
- RefWorks will prompt with Import completed when it is finished.
- Click View Last Imported Folder to view your references.

RefWorks will display references in the Last Imported Folder window.

Click the FIND IT @ XU icon to see if an article is available in full-text, print or microform format and to submit an interlibrary loan request.
