HelP: Exporting & Importing References from ACM Digital Library into RefWorks

These instructions assume that you are connected to the Internet, have searched ACM Digital Library and have a list of results.

Exporting References from ACM Digital Library

  1. At your search results click the title of one of the records you want. You will export the records from this databases one at a time.

  1. At the full record for this citation, click the Display Format, BibTex.

A new window will pop up and display your citaiton in BibTex format.

  1. With your mouse highlight all of the text that is displayed.
  2. Right-click your mouse and select Copy from the pop-up menu, or press the Ctrl key and then the letter C on your keyboard, and the text will be copied to your clipboard.

Importing References into RefWorks

From the library's homepage under the Welcome! tab, click RefWorks.

At the RefWorks User Login page:

  1. Enter your login name.
  2. Enter your password.
  3. Click Login.

NOTE: If you are in an off-campus location, you will be asked for a Group Code. Call the reference desk at 513 745-4808 to obtain this information.

  1. Click References in the top menu.
  2. Then click Import in the drop-down menu..

  1. RefWork's Import window will open.
  2. Click the down arrow in the Import Filter/Data Source drop-down box and select the Bib Tex import filter. Your screen will refresh.
  3. Click the down arrow in the Database drop-down box and select ACM Digital Library (BibTex format).
  4. Click the Import Data from the following Text button.
  5. Right-click your mouse and select Paste in the large textbox, or press the Ctrl key and then the letter V on your keyboard, and the citation you copied previously will appear in the large textbox.
  6. Click Import.

The RefWorks Import from Database page will open

  1. RefWorks will prompt with Import completed when it is finished.
  2. Click View Last Imported Folder to view your references.

  1. RefWorks will display references in the Last Imported Folder window.
  2. For information about searching and sorting your citations or about creating and organizing folders click the RefWorks HELP link, or for information about downloading citations from different databases, see the RefWorks help links in the library's database lists (see second image below).
  3. Click the OLinks icon to see if an article is available in full-text, print or microform format and to submit an interlibrary loan request.
