Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and Jesuit visitors may borrow materials through document delivery services. As a borrower you agree to accept responsibility for items loaned from other institutions.
- Make sure the article is not available in digital format:
- Click FIND IT @ XU for the article you need in a research database.
- Search for the journal you need in JOURNALS @ XU.
- Make sure the article is not available in print or microform formats:
- Search for the journal you need in XPLORE.
- Fill out the Document Delivery/Annex Article Request Form.

- The journal will be ready for pickup at the IRC Desk, Circulation after 10am the day after the request is submitted. Materials requested on Friday will be available for pickup on Monday; materials requested on Saturday or Sunday will be available for pickup on Tuesday. You will be notified via telephone or e-mail if a requested item is not available.
- You must photocopy the article you want as journals cannot be checked out.
- In XPLORE click the title of the book you want.
- Click the Request button and follow the on-screen instructions.
- The book will be ready for pickup at the IRC Desk, Circulation after 10am the day after the request is submitted. Materials requested on Friday will be available for pickup on Monday; materials requested on Saturday or Sunday will be available for pickup on Tuesday. You will be notified via telephone or e-mail if a requested item is not available.
- Books can be checked out at the IRC Desk, Circulation any time the library is open (check our hours page).
Turnaround time depends upon the availability of the item and the cooperation of other libraries.
- Books and other borrowed items usually arrive within 3-21 work days.
- Copies of journal articles and other documents shipped by mail or courier usually arrive within 5-21 work days.
- Copies of journal articles and other documents shipped electronically usually arrive within 3-5 work days.
Fees for document delivery services are subsidized by Xavier University Library. There are no costs for borrowing materials or obtaining copies of documents.
You will be notified by email (preferred) or telephone when materials borrowed through document delivery services arrive. Books and other borrowed items may be picked up at the circulation desk.
Articles and other copied documents are delivered electronically. Your email notification message will contain an Internet addresss and password that you can use to retrieve your document. Please retrieve these electronic documents within two weeks.
If you need the materials right away and they are available at another SWON (formerly GCLC) or OhioLINK library, you may go directly to the library and borrow (using your ALL Card) or copy the materials you need. The document delivery or reference staff will assist you in locating libraries that own the materials you need.
The date the item is due is determined by the lending library and marked on the book wrap.
To request one renewal of books borrowed through document delivery services, call the document delivery office at 513 745-4812 one week before the date the item is due.
Materials borrowed through document delivery services must be returned to the circulation desk at Xavier University Library or to the book drops outside the library.
