Web of Knowledge (1980-present plus citations to older cited references; updated weekly; some full-text; RefWorks Help; tutorial; citation alerts; saving searches & creating alerts; journal titles) indexes more than 8,000 peer-reviewed journals. It provides complete bibliographic data, searchable author abstracts (in the sciences and social sciences), the number of times an article is cited, related articles and cited references. The unique feature of these databases is that researchers can take a known, relevant paper and find other more recent papers that cite it. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). Click Change Limits and Settings to search only one of these databases. Webster's Third New International Dictionary Unabridged (all full-text; XLinks) contains over 470,000 entries. A special features enables users to use the dictionary to solve crossword puzzles or jumbles and to locate rhymes and homophones. Advanced searches permit the use of Starts with or Ends with searchers as well as a wildcard (*) for unknown letters anywhere in the word. Searches can also be limited to the main entry, etymology, function, verbal illustration, synonymy paragraph or author quoted. It is produced by Merriam-Webster, Inc. and the user interface is provided by Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc.

William Butler Yeats Collection (all full-text; XLinks) is a complete electronic edition of Yeats's work, bringing together 22 printed volumes and including critical and fictional prose, poetry, plays, and autobiographical works. It is produced by ProQuest/Chadwyck-Heale and the user interface is provided by OhioLINK.

Women and Social Movements (1600-2000; all full-text; XLinks) contains 79 document projects consisting of 2,400 documents from 1,700 primary authors. It includes local, state, and federal Commissions on the Status of Women from 1963 to the present. Publications include reports, pamphlets, posters, reviews, teaching tools and ephemeral materials. Users can browse by sources, authors, documents, images, document projects, teaching tools, social movements, subjects and bibliography. This database will eventually include the complete 5 volumes of Notable American Women: A Biographical Dictionary. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Alexander Street Press in collaboration with the University of Chicago.

Women's Studies International (1972 and earlier-present; much full-text; video tutorials; RefWorks help; XLinks) covers the core disciplines in women’s studies and scholarship in feminist research, including curriculum development in the areas of sociology, history, political science, economy, public policy, international relations, the arts, humanities, business and education. It indexes over 2,000 journals as well as newspapers, newsletters, bulletins, books, book chapters, proceedings, reports, theses, dissertations, NGO studies, Web sites & Web documents, and grey literature. It incorporates the following databases: Women Studies Abstracts, Women’s Studies Bibliography Database, Women’s Studies Database, Women Studies Librarian, Women of Color and Southern Women: A Bibliography of Social Science Research, and Women’s Health and Development: An Annotated Bibliography. Women Writers Online (1400-1850; all full-text; XLinks) is an archive of works by pre-Victorian women writers accompanied by contextual and topical essays. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by the Women Writers Project at Brown University.

World Almanac (1998-present; updated annually; some linked full-text) provides references included in the World Almanac and Book of Facts, World Almanac of the USA, World Almanac of U.S. Politics, World Almanac for Kids, and Funk & Wagnalls New Encyclopedia. It also includes WorldCat (books) and FirstSearch (articles) entries for topics searched. It is produced by World Almanac Education Group and the user interface is provided by OCLC (Online Computer Library Center).

World Book Web (all full-text; XLinks) includes World Book Dictionary, World Book Atlas, World Book Advanced, World Book Kids, and Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos. This suite of online research tools delivers encyclopedia articles, primary source collections, educator tools, student activities, pictures, tabular data, research guides, maps, audio and video, as well as encyclopedia articles, special reports, back-in-time articles, periodical articles and related Web sites. Special features include Explore Ohio, Feature of the Month, Behind the Headlines, Surf the Ages, Today in History, and Media Showcase. World Data Analyst (all full-text; XLinks) offers detailed comparative and ranked statistics for countries around the world, using both the most recent statistics and historical figures. Users can create tables and charts, and can export data into spreadsheets. It also provides links to country articles from the Britannica Concise Encyclopedia. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc.

World Development Indicators (WDI) Online (1960-2005; all full-text) provides direct access to over 600 development indicators with time series for 208 countries and 18 country groups from 1960-2005. World News Digest (1940-present; updated daily; all full-text; XLinks) allows users to search the top international news stories and overviews of historical events from 1940 to the present. It also provides editorial cartoons, country profiles, anniversaries of the month, newsmaker profiles, obituaries from 1980-2005, presidential elections highlights from 1940-2004, newspaper editorials, issues in the news, historical documents and heads of state and governmental leaders. WorldCat (1000 BC-present; updated daily; RefWorks help) contains millions of bibliographic records for all material cataloged by OCLC member libraries. It includes books, computer programs, films and slides, journals and magazines, chapters, papers, manuscripts, maps, musical scores, newspapers, sound recordings, videotapes and websites. It also includes Net First and the Union List of Periodicals. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by OCLC (Online Computer Library Center).

WorldCat.org (updated daily; RefWorks help; XLinks) lets users search the collections of libraries in your community and thousands more around the world. You can search for popular books, music CDs and videos; you can discover many new kinds of digital content, such as downloadable audiobooks; you may also find article citations with links to their full text (export articles to RefWorks to display the FindIt icon and link to the full-text, when available); authoritative research materials, such as documents and photos of local or historic significance; and digital versions of rare items that aren't available to the public. Resources are available in many languages. Users can create a free account to create lists of favorites, bibliographies, and reviews. Owning libraries are displayed in descending order by the number of miles from your geographic location or zip code. Worldwide Political Science Abstracts (1975-July 2006; some full-text; RefWorks help) provides indexing and abstracts to the international serials literature in political science and its complementary fields, including international relations, law, public administration and public policy. WPA Prints by Cleveland Artists (Case Western Reserve University) (XLinks) is part of OhioLINK's Digital Media Center: Art and Architecture Digital Media. It contains 259 digital images of prints by Cleveland artists contributed by Case Western Reserve University. Each entry includes the title, creator, creation date, object type, measurements, context, owne, contributor and stable link to the item. The user interface is provided by OhioLINK.

Wright Brothers Digital Photographs (XLinks) is a part of OhioLINK's Digital Media Center and contains a collection of photographs documenting the invention of the airplane, the lives of the Wright Family, and the Wright brothers' flying exhibitions in Europe and the United States. The collection provides thorough coverage of the Wright brothers' early inventive period documenting their early gliders and flight testing in both North Carolina and Ohio. Much of it should show that Orville and Wilbur Wright were technically excellent photographers who painstakingly documented their process of invention. The content posted to date also provides a valuable record of their home life, camp life, and the flora and fauna of the Outer Banks 100 year ago. These photos are from The Wright Brothers Collection housed in Special Collections and Archives at the Wright State University Libraries, one of the most complete collections of Wright material in the world. XPLORE Library Catalog (tips & tricks; RefWorks help; XLinks; video tutorials) is Xavier library's online public access catalog. It includes all of the library's books, journals, audiovisuals, and microform materials. Search XPLORE by keyword, author, title and Library of Congress subject heading. If you don't find what you need, request it online (printable instructions; video tutorial) from OhioLINK, the combined library catalog of 84 colleges and universities in the State of Ohio.

XU Digital Newspaper (1915-1 year from present; all full-text; general copyright information) contains the entire content in digital format of Xavier University's student newspaper, The Newswire. The student newspaper reports on key historical events and gives students' reflections and viewpoints on events of national and local importance, such as the death of President Kennedy and the nation at war in the 1940s. The voice of change throughout Xavier's history, the newspaper documents the merger of EdgeCliff College, the effects of coeducation, and the introduction of computers on campus. Most importantly the newspaper chronicles everyday life and general activities, from athletic achievements on the field to Xavier's Centennial celebration. The newspaper collection was scanned in 2007 from microfilm copies. The digital version is provided in searchable PDF (Adobe's Portable Document Format). Users can browse individual issues and years or search the full-text content. The microfilm version is housed in the library's archives. XU Digital Photographs (general copyright information; how to cite and fair use handout;) is a pilot project featuring digital images from the university archives of participating AJCU (Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities) institutions. University archives typically serve as the chief historical resource for materials about a university, its people, programs and culture. Xavier University's contributions to the pilot AJCU collection include 11 historical photographs depicting alumni activities, a historical campus view, general science classes, Bellarmine Chapel dedication, the journey of St. Francis Xavier mural, and the Union Building cafeteria. Each digital image includes a title, repository, original and copyright dates, description, thumbnail and larger images, subjects and contributor. The XU Digital Photographs are published by Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio, and the user interface is provided by CONTENTdm.

XU Digital Yearbooks (1924-2005; all full-text; general copyright information) contains the full-text of Xavier University's student yearbook. Named after the University's mascot, the Musketeer, the yearbook was published from 1924 to 2005 with several gaps in publication: no yearbooks were published from 1943-1946 due to World War II and yearbooks were not published in 1972-1973 or 1988-1989. The yearbook ceased publication in 2005 due to a lack of student interest and poor sales. The yearbooks chronicle every academic year with text and pictures of students, faculty, and events, with occasional sections on world events. The yearbooks constitute a pictorial history of the Xavier University campus, its students, administrators and faculty. It is an especially rich source for understanding student life and activities, including academics, honor societies, clubs, student government, performances, publications, debates & oratoricals, contests & awards, proms & balls, homecomings, intramural sports and athletics. The yearbook collection was scanned in 2006 from original print copies housed in the Xavier University Library. The digital version is provided in searchable PDF (Adobe's Portable Document Format). Users can browse and/or search all volumes, individual years or the full-text content. The print version of the yearbook is available in the library's reference and special collections; the microfilm version is housed in the library's archives.
