Multimedia Archive/AP Images (1840-present; updated daily; full-text captions) contains
over 750,000 of the Associated Press' best photographs, over 380,000 audio files
(requiring RealPlayer) and links to 800,000 full-text articles. About 800 photos
are added daily and about 200 photos from the historical collection are added
monthly. It includes maps, graphs, charts, logos, flags and illustrations, including
2,000 graphics using Spanish instead of English. Audio files, images and other
graphics may be downloaded and used for educational purposes. Educators may search
by state and grade level for images applicable to a specific state curriculum

Kent State Shootings, Oral Histories (XLinks) is a part of OhioLINK's Digital Media Center
and contains a collection of 69 oral histories related to the May 4, 1970 shootings of Vietnam War protestors at Kent State University. The oral histories include many eyewitness accounts of the event and its
aftermath, contributed by people who were students, faculty members, and City of
Kent residents at the time, as well as an account by an Ohio National Guardsman.

Lake Erie's Yesterdays (XLinks) is a part of OhioLINK's Digital Media Center
and contains a collection of historic photographs of northwestern Ohio, documenting the local history of the Erie islands and Lake Erie's western basin. These 1,087 black and white images were produced by Sandusky, Ohio, commerical
photographer Ernst Niebergall between 1909 and 1915. From ice harvesting and
railroads to early aviation and island leisure activities, the Niebergall
photographs richly depict the everyday lives and activities of Lake Erie's
southern shoreline residents. The photographs provide a record of communities in
transition as old methods gave way to advances in industry and technology. The
original photos were part of the Charles E. Frohman Collection at the Manuscripts Division of the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center. The user

National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Digital Images (XLinks) is a part of OhioLINK's Digital Media Center
and contains digital documents related to slavery, abolition, and emancipation. The
collection includes abolitionist broadsheets, photographs by Matthew Brady,
letters and speeches of President Lincoln and other presidents, and other
historic letters, documents, and pictures. The original documents are found in the Gilder Lehrman Collection of the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. The digital images were made available through the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. The user

North American Immigrant Letters, Diaries & Oral Histories (1800-1950; all full-text; XLinks)
contains 2,162 authors and approximately 100,000 pages of information providing a unique and personal
view of what it meant to immigrate to America and Canada between 1800 and 1950. Composed of
contemporaneous letters and diaries, oral histories, interviews, and other personal narratives, the
series provides a rich source for scholars in a wide range of disciplines. The collection is
particularly useful to researchers, because much of the original material is difficult to find,
poorly indexed, and unpublished; most bibliographies of the immigrant focus on secondary research;
and few oral histories have been published. In selected cases, users will be able to hear the actual

women and 150,000 pages of diaries and letters. Materials have been carefully chosen using

collection also includes biographies and an extensive annotated bibliography of the sources in the

Center: Art and Architecture Digital Media. It contains 1,009 digital images of paintings and sculptures located in museums worldwide. It also contains digital images of photographs of architectural structures located throughout the world. Each entry includes the title, creator, creation date, object type, measurements, materials, style/period, owner, accession number, contributor and a stable link to the item. This collection emphasizes the core images required for teaching the history of Western art and is based on Gardner's Art Through the Ages, Stokstad's History of Art and Hartt's History of Italian Renaissance Art. Wright Brothers Digital Photographs (XLinks) is a part of OhioLINK's Digital Media Center
and contains a collection of photographs documenting the invention of the airplane, the lives of the Wright Family, and the Wright brothers' flying exhibitions in Europe and the United States. The collection provides thorough coverage of the Wright brothers' early inventive period documenting their early gliders and flight testing in both North Carolina and Ohio. Much of it should show that Orville and Wilbur Wright were technically excellent photographers who painstakingly documented their process of invention. The content posted to date also provides a valuable record of their home life, camp life, and the flora and fauna of the Outer Banks 100 year ago.
These photos are from The Wright Brothers Collection housed in Special Collections and Archives at the Wright State University Libraries, one of the most complete collections of Wright material in the world. The user

XU Digital Newspaper
(1915-1 year from present; all full-text; general copyright information) contains the entire content in digital format of Xavier University's
student newspaper, The Newswire. The student newspaper reports on key historical events and gives
students' reflections and viewpoints on events of national and local importance, such as the death of President
Kennedy and the nation at war in the 1940s. The voice of change throughout Xavier's history, the newspaper
documents the merger of EdgeCliff College, the effects of coeducation, and the introduction of computers on campus.
Most importantly the newspaper chronicles everyday life and general activities, from athletic achievements on the field
to Xavier's Centennial celebration. The newspaper collection was scanned in 2007 from microfilm copies. The digital
version is provided in searchable PDF (Adobe's Portable Document Format). Users can browse individual issues and years or

University archives typically serve as the chief historical resource for materials about a university, its people, programs and culture. Xavier University's contributions to the pilot AJCU collection include 11 historical photographs depicting alumni activities, a historical campus view, general science classes, Bellarmine Chapel dedication, the journey of St. Francis Xavier mural, and the Union Building cafeteria. Each digital image includes a title, repository, original and copyright dates, description, thumbnail and larger images, subjects and contributor. XU Digital Yearbooks(1924-2005; all full-text; general copyright information) contains the full-text of Xavier University's student yearbook. Named after the University's mascot, the Musketeer, the yearbook was published from 1924 to 2005 with several gaps in publication: no yearbooks were published from 1943-1946 due to World War II and yearbooks were not published in 1972-1973 or 1988-1989. The yearbook ceased publication in 2005 due to a lack of student interest and poor sales. The yearbooks chronicle every academic year with text and pictures of students, faculty, and events, with occasional sections on world events. The yearbooks constitute a pictorial history of the Xavier University campus, its students, administrators and faculty. It is an especially rich source for understanding student life and activities, including academics, honor societies, clubs, student government, performances, publications, debates & oratoricals, contests & awards, proms & balls, homecomings, intramural sports and athletics. The yearbook collection was scanned in 2006 from original print copies housed in the Xavier University Library. The digital version is provided in searchable PDF (Adobe's Portable Document Format).
