Highly Recommended Databases

ABI/Inform Research (1971-present; much full-text; RefWorks help; XLinks; title list) is a scholarly business periodicals database. It covers nearly 1,400 North American sources, providing information on advertising, economics, human resources, finance, marketing, computers and more. It includes access to the Wall Street Journal and information on over 60,000 companies. The user intereface is provided by ProQuest.

Business Source Complete (some from 1886-present; updated daily; much full-text; tutorials; RefWorks help; XLinks) provides indexing and abstracts for the most important scholarly business journals. It contains far more peer-reviewed, business-related journals than any other database currently available. It contains searchable cited references for 1,200 journals and 20,000 detailed author profiles. It covers all subject areas related to business, including management, marketing, economics, finance, accounting, and international business. Additional full text, non-journal content includes financial data, books, major reference works, book digests, conference proceedings, case studies, investment research reports, product reviews, industry profiles (Datamonitor reports), market research reports, country reports, company profiles (including Life Science Analytics (LSA) company profiles from the MedTRACK database), and SWOT analyses. This database also includes 55 digital videos from the Harvard Business School Faculty Seminar Series. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by EBSCO Publishing.

Euromonitor (Passport GMID) includes 8 million exportable business statistics, about 18,000 reports, research on more than 200 national markets, emerging trends, and easy to use powerful data analysis functions. It permits industry, country, and consumer group searches. Advanced searching allows users to select a company or brand and then limit by packaging and package closure. It also includes spotlights and latest research. It is compiled by and the user interface is provided by Euromonitor International.

Human Resources Abstracts (1975-present; Much full-text; Tutorials; RefWorks help; XLinks) contains over 116,000 records covering human resources, industrial relations, occupation, labor, compensation, benefits, work, and organizational behavior. It also includes journals in social work, sociology, public health, welfare, psychology, economics, business, education, law, counseling, and management. It includes academic journals, books, magazines. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by EBSCO Publishing.

LexisNexis Academic (all full-text; RefWorks help; Shepardize handout) covers a wide variety of subjects including law, government, international affairs, politics, current events, business and medicine. Legal research provides federal and state cases, Shepard's citations, federal and state codes, tax law, Canadian court cases and legislation, law reviews, and patents. Business research allows users to create company profiles, lists, and comparisons, as well as SEC filings, account and country profiles. Company reports can be created and data can be downloaded into spreadsheets. The People tab allows users to find obituaries, elected officials, and industry contacts. It is compiled by and the user interface is provided by LexisNexis.

Mergent Online (all full-text), formerly FIS Online, includes EDGAR documents, financial reports, industry reports by country, country profiles, company news and Moody's securities data. Industry reports include Asia Pacific, Europe and Latin American countries as well as those in North America. Each country's industry report includes a sector overview, leading companies, market outlook, sector performance, and mergers and acquisitions. Advanced searching permits users to target US, international, or private companies. It provides the ability to export company reports and financial data into Microsoft Excel, to search across multiple databases on different variables, and to compare reports of multiple companies. Value Line Research Center (updated weekly; all full-text) includes access to leading investment publications covering stocks, mutual funds, daily options and convertible securities as well as special situation stocks. It contains ratings and reports on 1,700 companies and more than 90 industries, including stock rankings, screens, statistics, and the latest economic and market forecasts. Cabell's Directories provides full-text directory information for business, education, psychology/psychiatry, and computer science/information systems journal publications. Each journal entry includes submission information (editor’s name, address, phone, fax, email, web address); publication guidelines (manuscript length, copies required, format, fees, style, computer submission); circulation data (reader type, frequency, number of subscribers, publisher, price); review information (type of reveiws, number of in-house and external reviewers, acceptance rate, time it takes to review, percent of invited articles, reviewers coments, publishing fees); manuscript topics included; and manuscript guidelines. CultureGrams (all full-text; XLinks) includes a world, children and states editions. It contains a photo gallery, recipe collection, famous people, data tables and definitions. Select from an A-Z list of countries/regions/states or select an area on a map. Each country includes a detailed map, flag, national anthem, current time, currency converter, recipe collection, facts and statistics as well as sections on history, climate, the people, customs, courtesies, lifestyle and society. Oxford Reference Online (Using this resource; all full-text; XLinks) is a cross-searchable database of more than 125 quick reference dictionaries and 189 in-depth encyclopedias. It covers general reference as well as specific subject categories: archaeology, art and architecture, bilingual dictionaries, classical studies, encyclopedias, English dictionaries and thesauri, history, language reference, law, linguistics, literature, media studies, medicine and health, music, names studies, performing arts, philosophy, quotations, religion, science and technology, social sciences, and society and culture. All subject categories can be searched separately. Reference types include overview pages, subject reference, timelines, quotations, English dictionaries, and bilingual dictionaries. Click Web of Science and then change Current Limits to search this database separately. It provides bibliographic information and cited references for over 1,700 social sciences journals. It covers anthropology, business, communication, demography, economics, education, ethnic studies, family studies, health policy, history, information & library science, international relations, law, management, nursing, political science, psychology, public administration, rehabilitation, social work, sociology, substance abuse, transportation, urban studies, women's studies.
