Academic Search Complete (1985-present; updated daily; more full-text; video tutorials; RefWorks help; XLinks) is a multidisciplinary database that covers nearly all academic areas of study, including social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, language, linguistics, the arts, literature, medical sciences and ethnic studies. It indexes and abstracts over 9,300 journals, many of them peer-reviewed (4,400), and provides full-text for over 5,300 journals. It also includes indexing and abstracts for books, reports, conference proceedings, etc. Searchable cited references are provided for 1,000 journals. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by EBSCO Publishing.

CQ Researcher (1991-present; all full-text; RefWorks help; XLinks) is the online version of the CQ Researcher print publication. It provides original, comprehensive reporting and analysis on issues in the news. Each issue discussed includes an abstract, overview, background, current situation, outlook, special focus, chronology, pro/con, bibliography, next step, contacts, and footnotes. Controversial topics are addressed in a balanced, unbiased manner. It is published by and the user interface is provided by CQ Press, a Division of Congressional Quarterly, Inc. This subscription is limited to 5 simultaneous users.

Electronic Journal Center (about 1995-present; updates dependent upon publisher; all full-text; RefWorks help; XLinks; saving searches) is a multidisciplinary collection of about 5,000 journals published by Academic Press, American Chemical Society, American Institute of Physics, American Physical Society, American Psychological Association (PsycARTICLES), Association of Computing Machinery, Berkeley Electronic Press, BioOne, Blackwell, Cambridge University Press, Elsevier, Emerald (MCB University Press), Ingenta, Institute of Physics, Kluwer, Lawrence Erlbaum, Optical Society of America, Oxford University Press, Project MUSE, Royal Society of Chemistry, Springer-Verlag, Thieme and Wiley. Scholars can be notified by email about new relevant articles according to subject, author or journal title. It is compiled by and the user interface is provided by OhioLINK.

JSTOR (1st issue of 1st volume to 3 years from present; all full-text; RefWorks help; XLinks; title list) provides online access to back issues of selected scholarly journals in a variety of academic disciplines including the arts, business, demographic studies, humanities, social sciences, and science.The multidisciplinary arts & sciences collection was updated in June 2009 with an additional 120 titles, bringing the total number of journals in this collection to 749. JSTOR also includes 8,200 19th Century British pamphlets. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by JSTOR, a not-for-profit organization that serves and is supported by the scholarly community.

Newspaper Source (1984-present; updated daily; some full-text; video tutorials; RefWorks help; XLinks) provides indexing and abstracts for 4 national newspapers; selected full-text for 245 regional U.S. newspapers, 18 international newspapers, 6 newswires, 9 newspaper columns; and cover-to-cover full text for Christian Science Monitor and Los Angeles Times. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by EBSCO Publishing.

OAIster (updated weekly; much full-text and other digital content; RefWorks help) serves as a portal for more than 19 million digital resources from over 1,000 organizations developed by the University of Michigan and harvested using OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting). It includes digital items such as books and articles, audio files, images, videos, and datasets (downloadable statistics files). Users can search by keyword, title, creator, subject or resource type (audio, dataset, image, text, or video). Searches yield a detailed and well-organized description of the resource and a persistent/stable link to the resource itself. Indexed content includes the Library of Congress' American Memory Project, various pre-print and e-print servers, and digital thesis and dissertation collections. It is produced by University of Michigan Digital Library Production Services and the user interface is provided by OCLC (Online Computer Library Center).

Ohio's Newspapers (most from 1990s-present; all full-text, although none in PDF; RefWorks help) provides access to 5 Ohio newspapers: The Toledo Blade (1/1/1996-present), The Cincinnati Post (4/1/1980-12/31/2007), The Columbus Dispatch (7/16/1985-present), The Dayton Daily News (1/1/1990-present), and The Cleveland Plain Dealer (6/1/1981-present). Users can search all newspapers at once or individual titles. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by NewsBank.

World News Digest (1940-present; updated daily; all full-text; XLinks) allows users to search the top international news stories and overviews of historical events from 1940 to the present. It also provides editorial cartoons, country profiles, anniversaries of the month, newsmaker profiles, obituaries from 1980-2005, presidential elections highlights from 1940-2004, newspaper editorials, issues in the news, historical documents and heads of state and governmental leaders. Special features include What Happened That Day, maps and photographs. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Facts on File.

Web of Knowledge (ALTERNATIVE LINK; 1980-present plus citations to older cited references; updated weekly; some full-text; RefWorks Help; tutorial; citation alerts; saving searches & creating alerts; journal titles) indexes more than 8,000 peer-reviewed journals. It provides complete bibliographic data, searchable author abstracts (in the sciences and social sciences), the number of times an article is cited, related articles and cited references. The unique feature of these databases is that researchers can take a known, relevant paper and find other more recent papers that cite it. It includes the following multidisciplinary citation databases: Arts & Humanities Citation Index, Science Citation Index, and Social Sciences Citation Index. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). Click Change Limits and Settings to search only one of these databases. Click Register or Sign In to save searches and receive search history and citation alerts.

Recommended Databases

Article First (1990-present; updated daily; some full-text; RefWorks help) is an index of articles listed on table of contents pages of over 12,000 journals. It indexes articles, news stories and letters. It covers business, humanities, medicine, popular culture, science, social science and technology. Most items include a list of libraries that have the journal title. It also includes ContentsFirst. It is produced and the user interface is provided by OCLC (Online Computer Library Center).

Business Source Complete (some from 1886-present; updated daily; much full-text; video tutorials; RefWorks help; XLinks) provides indexing and abstracts for the most important scholarly business journals. It contains far more peer-reviewed, business-related journals than any other database currently available. It contains searchable cited references for 1,200 journals and 20,000 detailed author profiles. It covers all subject areas related to business, including management, marketing, economics, finance, accounting, and international business. Additional full text, non-journal content includes financial data, books, major reference works, book digests, conference proceedings, case studies, investment research reports, product reviews, industry profiles (Datamonitor reports), market research reports, country reports, company profiles (including Life Science Analytics (LSA) company profiles from the MedTRACK database), and SWOT analyses. This database also includes 55 digital videos from the Harvard Business School Faculty Seminar Series. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by EBSCO Publishing.

Education Research Complete (much full-text; video tutorials; RefWorks help; XLinks) offers the largest and most complete collection of full-text education journals. It covers areas of curriculum instruction as well as administration, policy, funding, and related social issues. It includes the database, Professional Development Collection. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by EBSCO Publishing.

MasterFILE Premier (1975-present; updated daily; much full-text; video tutorials; RefWorks help; XLinks) provides indexing and abstracts for over 2,510 journals and full-text for 1,900 journals. It covers general reference, business, consumer health, general science, and multi-cultural topics. It also includes full-text for 200 reference and travel books; 88,000 biographies; 60,000 primary source documents; and 91,000 photos, maps, and flags. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by EBSCO Publishing.
