African American Experience (African-American origins to the present; all full-text) is a cross-searchable collection of African-American history and culture. It covers the arts, biography, business, civil rights, education, folklore, history, literature, music, politics, pop culture, science, slavery, sports, and technology. This collection includes the African-American Greenwood encyclopedias, other references books, and 67 Negro University Press texts from the late 1700s to the early 1970s. Primary sources include 4,000 interviews wtih former slaves (the WPA slave narratives), as well as manuscripts, speeches, court cases, quotations, advertisements, and statistics. Special features include a timeline dating from the 1400s to the present, In their Own Voices audio clips of slave interviews and music, lesson plans, and hundreds of photographs, maps and images. Business and Company Resource Center (1980-present; XLinks) contains detailed company and industry news and information. It is a fully integrated resource that brings together company profiles, brand information, rankings, investment reports, company histories, chronologies, and periodicals. It includes Ward's Business Directory and numerous other directories and encyclopedias, as well as Market Share Reporter (search for a company, select the Rankings tab, and then select Market Share). It is produced by Thomson/Gale and the user interface is provided by InfoTrac. This subscription permits only two simultaneous users.

Business and Industry (1994-July 2006; much full-text; RefWorks help; video tutorial) covers company, product, and industry information, including manufacturing and service industries. It is produced by Thompson/Gale and the user interface is provided by OhioLINK. See Business Source Complete for more up-to-date information.

Business Source Complete (some from 1886-present; updated daily; much full-text; video tutorials; RefWorks help; XLinks) provides indexing and abstracts for the most important scholarly business journals. It contains far more peer-reviewed, business-related journals than any other database currently available. It contains searchable cited references for 1,200 journals and 20,000 detailed author profiles. It covers all subject areas related to business, including management, marketing, economics, finance, accounting, and international business. Additional full text, non-journal content includes financial data, books, major reference works, book digests, conference proceedings, case studies, investment research reports, product reviews, industry profiles (Datamonitor reports), market research reports, country reports, company profiles (including Life Science Analytics (LSA) company profiles from the MedTRACK database), and SWOT analyses. CIAO (Columbia International Affairs Online) (1991-present; updated monthly and weekly; much full-text; XLinks) indexes books, journals, working papers, occasional papers, case studies, and conference proceedings. It covers theory and research in international affairs and includes policy briefs, economic indicators, research projects, links to Internet resources, schedule of events, maps, and country data. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Columbia University Press.

Cochrane Database (updated quarterly; systematic reviews full-text; RefWorks help; XLinks) contains systematic reviews providing high quality evidence for people providing and receiving care. It includes citations to controlled trials, effectiveness reviews, methodology register, economic evaluations of health care interventions, and healthcare technology assessments. It is produced by the Cochrane Library and the user interface is provided by Wiley InterScience. Evidence-Based Practice Tip: Click Advanced Search. Under Restrict Search by Product uncheck All of Cochrane and check either Cochrane Reviews or Clicnial Trials. All articles in this database should have some level of evidence.

CultureGrams (all full-text; XLinks) includes a world, children and states editions. It contains a photo gallery, recipe collection, famous people, data tables and definitions. Select from an A-Z list of countries/regions/states or select an area on a map. Each country includes a detailed map, flag, national anthem, current time, currency converter, recipe collection, facts and statistics as well as sections on history, climate, the people, customs, courtesies, lifestyle and society. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Brigham Young University.

Demographics Now (all full-text; data) allows users to analyze the demographic and market potential of any geographic area in the U.S. It creates summary, comparison, ranking and radius-based reports by geographic area. Summary reports contain multiple user-defined variables for a single geographic area; comparison reports offer side-by-side comparisons of up to 16 geographic areas; ranking reports rank multiple geographic areas by the performance of specific user-defined variables such as gender, income, employment, housing value or household composition; radius reports makes it possible to summarize the entire area of a given radius or to compare multiple radii. Gartner Group Data (temporarily unavailable) is a source of business and technology intelligence and includes global market knowledge for the IT and telecom industries. It helps channel strategies, differentiate products, assess competitors, and sharpen forecasts about market size and market share. This database is licensed for only Xavier faculty, staff and students. It requires your MyXU (portal) username and password.

Historical Statistics of the United States (most from 1800s-1990s; full-text essays & introductions; downloadable data) provides quantitative data on population, work & welfare, economic structure & performance, economic sectors, and governance & international relations. It covers social, behavioral, humanistic, and natural sciences including history, economics, government, finance, sociology, demography, education, law, natural resources, climate, religion, international migration, and trade. It permits users to search and download data as well as create customized tables, spreadsheets and graphs. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Cambridge University Press.

Hoovers (updated daily; all full-text) provides comprehensive up-to-date information, data and news for 12 million companies and 40,000 industries. Users can search companies by name, ticker, stock quote, industry keyword, or executive name. Users can also browse companies by name, geographic location, or stock index. The business boneyard provides information about defunct companies. Advanced searching permits users to build company and executive lists, target IPO companies, screen stocks, build reports and customize news searches. Industry entries include most viewed companies, full company list, related industries, news, glossary, associations/organizations, web resources and SIC/NAICS codes. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Hoovers.

IFS (International Financial Statistics) (time series from 1948-present; all full-text) provides statistics on all aspects of international and domestic finance. It provides tabular data that can be displayed in spreadsheet format. It includes exchange rates, liquidity, money, banking, interest rates, prices, production, transactions, balance of payments, investment position, government finance, and national accounts. It is produced by the International Monetary Fund. This subscription is limited to 5 simultaneous users.

LANDSAT 7 Satellite Images (updated every 16 days) is part of OhioLINK's digital Media Center and makes Ohio-based satellite data available for download or web viewing. Several views are available, including infrared and true color composite. Urban growth, natural resource loss, and crop health are a few of the environmental issues that may be monitored with this type of satellite data. It is produced by the U.S. Geological Survey and the user interface is provided by OhioLINK.

LexisNexis Advertising Redbooks (all full-text) contains information on nearly 18,000 U.S. and international advertisers who each spend more than $200,000 annually on advertising. Each listing includes advertising expenditures by media, current agency, fiscal year-end and annual sales, contact information, brand names, S.I.C. classifications and other key data. It also contains profiles of nearly 14,000 U.S. and international advertising agencies, including accounts represented by each agency, fields of specialization, breakdown of gross billings by media, and contact information on agency personnel. LexisNexis Statistical Publications & DataSets (exportable data; users guide) includes datasets from many sources, including the US government, international organizations, and the private sector. It covers all subject areas, including banking and finance, criminal justice and law, education, energy resources and demand, food and agriculture, government and politics, health and vital statistics, housing and construction, industry and commerce, international; labor and employment, natural resources and environment, population and income, prices and cost of living, stocks and commodities, and transportation and travel. Users can search datasets by keyword; browse datasets by subject or source; display datasets by trend, map or ranking; and output datasets in print, PDF, delimited, Excel or SAS formats. Datasets can be limited by date and geographic area (country, state, county). Years available varies by dataset; for example, births 1999-present and breast cancer 1973-present. It also features datasets currently in the news, such as crude oil price, 30-year fixed mortgage rate, airline on-time arrival rate, campaign contributions for both Obama and McCain, gasoline prices, the prime rate and the unemployment rate. Mediamark Reporter (all full-text; tutorial and registration; reading reports), formerly called Internet Reporter, provides comprehensive data on the uses of various consumer products, including Teenmark reports. The studies include demographic information on the persons surveyed, their use of consumer products, and their use of various forms of advertising, including television, radio, and print media. It is produced by Mediamark Research, Inc. (MRI). Users have to register first and are then sent an email message with a validation link. Please use your Xavier email address when registering. This subscription is limited to 10 simultaneous users.

Mergent Online (all full-text), formerly FIS Online, includes EDGAR documents, financial reports, industry reports by country, country profiles, company news and Moody's securities data. Industry reports include Asia Pacific, Europe and Latin American countries as well as those in North America. Each country's industry report includes a sector overview, leading companies, market outlook, sector performance, and mergers and acquisitions. Advanced searching permits users to target US, international, or private companies. It provides the ability to export company reports and financial data into Microsoft Excel, to search across multiple databases on different variables, and to compare reports of multiple companies. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Mergent.

Mintel Reports offers international market research reports covering US, EU & UK marketplaces. Each report combines data & analysis of the competitive landscape, market share analysis and consumer profiles. Complex demographic issues are broken into easy-to-understand sections, explaining consumer behavior and demonstrating the structure of the market. Each report includes an introduction, abbreviations, executive summary, market drivers, market size & trends, market segmentation, supply structure, advertising & promotion, retail distribution, the consumer and future & forecast. There are three types of reports: consumer, life style and travel. Each report provides news updates and related reports. OAIster (updated weekly; much full-text and other digital content; RefWorks help) serves as a portal for more than 19 million digital resources from over 1,000 organizations developed by the University of Michigan and harvested using OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting). It includes digital items such as books and articles, audio files, images, videos, and datasets (downloadable statistics files). Users can search by keyword, title, creator, subject or resource type (audio, dataset, image, text, or video). Searches yield a detailed and well-organized description of the resource and a persistent/stable link to the resource itself. Indexed content includes the Library of Congress' American Memory Project, various pre-print and e-print servers, and digital thesis and dissertation collections. It is produced by University of Michigan Digital Library Production Services and the user interface is provided by OCLC (Online Computer Library Center).

PubMed (mid1950s-present; updated daily; some full-text; RefWorks help; XLinks) provides free access to the bibliographic information contained in MEDLINE and OLD MEDLINE. It provides abstracts and indexing for over 5,000 periodicals in medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, health care and preclinical sciences. Coverage is worldwide with extensive links to genomic information. It also includes the MEDLINE subsets AIDSLINE, BIOETHICSLINE, and HEALTHSTAR. It is produced by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the user interface is provided by the Entrez retrieval system of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). Evidence-Based Practice Tip: To limit search results to articles with some level of evidence: Click Clinical Queries in the left sidebar. Select an appropriate Category and Emphasis. Use a broad Emphasis to retrieve more articles. If necessary, select other limits (e.g., English language or date) to reduce retrieval.

Research Insight (campus only database; all full-text; tutorials for industry ratios & company reports), formerly Compustat, provides financial, statistical, and market data for U.S. and Canadian companies, business segments, geographic areas, and industry composites. It only includes information for publicly traded companies, both current and historical. It porvides 10 years of daily stock price data. Data can be exported and imported into MS Excel and is compatible with MS Vista & Office 2007. Produced by and the user interface provided by Standard & Poors. Spanish Reference Center (all full-text; XLinks) is the most comprehensive encyclopedia in the Spanish language. It includes PlanetaSaber and Enciclopedia Juvenil. PlanetaSaber contains over 145,000 articles, more than 9,100 images, maps, timelines, an atlas, a dictionary, and tables. It is a Spanish language reference resource for native Spanish speakers, bilingual students, and students learning Spanish. Enciclopedia Juvenil provides a Spanish language encyclopedia, images, videos, and learning materials specifically designed or younger learners. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc.

SRDS Media Solutions provides full-text directory information for companies and contacts. It includes advertising rates for more than 100,000 media properties, updating more than 21,000 listings each month; and demographic market profiles for the TV and cable section. Standard & Poors NetAdvantage (all full-text) is a resource for investment research and commentary. It includes Industry Surveys , Stock Reports, Mutual Fund Reports, Bond Reports, Corporation Records, The Register of Corporations, Directors and Executives, and The Outlook (1996-present). It contains news, credit ratings, indices, risk evaluation, investment research, data and valuations. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Standard & Poors.

STAT-USA (all full-text) provides business, economic and trade information from the Federal government. The State of the Nation section provides current and historical economic and financial data. The GLOBUS & NTDB section provides current and historical trade-related releases, international market research, trade opportunities, country analysis, and the National Trade Data Bank (NTDB). It is produced by and the user interface is provided by U.S. Department of Commerce.
