SciFinder Scholar (Chemistry Department only) allows users to search Chemical Abstracts by author, keyword, (sub)structure, sequence, and more. It permits users to browse scientific journals and stay current with the scientific literature. It includes a Keep Me Posted update feature. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by Chemical Abstracts Service. Students should contact their chemistry instructor for access information. Chemical Abstracts is also available through Scientific and Technical Information Network (STN).

Science Citation Index (SCI) (1980-present; updated weekly; some full-text; RefWorks Help; tutorial; citation alerts; saving searches & creating alerts; journal titles) provides bibliographic information and cited references for over 5,700 scientific research journals. It covers agriculture, astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, dentistry, ecology, engineering, environmental sciences, geography, mathematics, medicine, physics, plant sciences, psychiatry, veterinary sciences, and zoology. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). Click Change Limits and Settings to search only this database. Click Register or Sign In to save searches and receive search history and citation alerts. Evidence-Based Practice Tip: To limit search results to articles with some level of evidence: Type your topic in the textboxes provided. Type your academic disicipline (e.g., occupational therapy, social work, nursing) in the next available textbox. Type research in the next available textbox. Academic Search Complete (1985-present; updated daily; more full-text; video tutorials; RefWorks help; XLinks) is a multidisciplinary database that covers nearly all academic areas of study, including social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, language, linguistics, the arts, literature, medical sciences and ethnic studies. It indexes and abstracts over 9,300 journals, many of them peer-reviewed (4,400), and provides full-text for over 5,300 journals. It also includes indexing and abstracts for books, reports, conference proceedings, etc. Searchable cited references are provided for 1,000 journals. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by EBSCO Publishing.

Academic OneFile (updated daily; much full-text; RefWorks help; XLinks; title list) indexes and abstracts more than 10,000 journals in which there is considerably more peer reviewed content (8,000 titles) than in InfoTrac OneFile (3,000 titles). It covers a wide range of academic disciplines: physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects. It also contains hundreds of podcasts and transcripts from NPR, CNN and the CBC as well as the full-text of the New York Times back to 1995. It is produced by Thomson-Gale and the user interface is provided by InfoTrac.

ACD-HNMR Chemsketch (Chemistry Department only) permits the drawing of molecular structures and substructures. It is available in CD-ROM format and is produced by Advanced Chemistry Development. Limited to one user at a time. Contact the Chemistry Department for access information.

Biology Digest (1989-present; updated 9 times/yeaar; RefWorks help) provides detailed abstracts written in a nontechnical style for non-biology students and interested non-scientists. It also conveys solid, factual information useful to life scientists exploring areas outside their specialities. It covers botany, environmental science, health, life sciences, medicine and zoology. It is produced by Plexus Publishing and the user interface is provided by OCLC (Online Computer Library Center).

BioMed Central (some full-text; RefWorks Help; XLinks) provides access to 100 online and print-based journals as well as Faculty of 1000, a literature evaluation service. All research articles and most other content are fully and rapidly peer-reviewed. The form of peer review is left to those responsible for the editorial control of participating journals. Authors retain copyright to their articles. It is produced by contributing authors and participating journals, and the user interface is provided by BioMed Central.

Chemical Abstracts (1907-present; updated daily) is a bibliographic database that covers all areas of chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, and related sciences. It includes international journals, patents, patent families, technical reports, books, conference proceedings, and dissertations. It provides substance and subject indexing, including CAS Registry Numbers, and abstracts. It is produced by Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) and the user interface is provided by Scientific and Technical Information Network (STN). Contact the Chemistry Department chairman for the user name and password. This database is also available through SciFinder Scholar.

General OneFile (1980-present; much full-text; RefWorks help; XLinks), formerly InfoTrac OneFile, indexes and abstracts more than 10,000 titles covering general interest topics, business, law, health care. It includes more than 6,000 full-text titles and 3,000 refereed journals, 5 newspaper indexes and 121 newswire services. It covers topics such as the arts, business and industry, education, general interest, health, law, literature, news and commentary, science, social sciences and technology. It is produced by Thomson-Gale and the user interface is provided by InfoTrac.

GEOBASE (1980-present; updated twice a month; some full-text; RefWorks help) contains abstracts of journal articles, books, monographs, conference proceedings, and reports. It covers cartography, climatology, ecology, energy, environment, geochemistry, geography, geology, geomorphology, geophysics, hydrology, meteorology, paleontology, petrology, photogrammetry, sedimentology and volcanology. Science Online (all full-text; XLinks) is an online encyclopedia and NOT the journal, Science. It offers a comprehensive, curriculum-oriented overview of a broad range of scientific disciplines including biology and life sciences, chemistry, computer science, earth science, environmental science, forensic science, mathematics, physics, space and astronomy, and weather and climate.
