Finding Books and Videos.

XPLORE Library Catalog (tips & tricks; RefWorks help; XLinks; video tutorials) is Xavier library's online public access catalog. It includes all of the library's books, journals, audiovisuals, and microform materials. Search XPLORE by keyword, author, title and Library of Congress subject heading. If you don't find what you need, request it online (printable instructions; video tutorial) from OhioLINK, the combined library catalog of 84 colleges and universities in the State of Ohio.

There are many databases which are useful for your topic.

Academic Search Complete (1985-present; updated daily; more full-text; video tutorials; RefWorks help; XLinks) is a multidisciplinary database that covers nearly all academic areas of study, including social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, language, linguistics, the arts, literature, medical sciences and ethnic studies. It indexes and abstracts over 9,300 journals, many of them peer-reviewed (4,400), and provides full-text for over 5,300 journals. It also includes indexing and abstracts for books, reports, conference proceedings, etc. Searchable cited references are provided for 1,000 journals. It is produced by and the user interface is provided by EBSCO Publishing.

Electronic Journal Center

The Electronic Journal Center is a database of full-text journals. Your results are returned to you in relevancy order. Searching for Africa brings many results in this database.

Historical Abstracts

Historical Abstracts is the best database to go to for information on Africa. This database covers history in countries other than the United States. Below are some suggested subject searches.

JSTOR
When searching JSTOR, select history journals, African-American Studies and African Studies before you enter your search term. Results are given in relevancy order. There are many full text articles in JSTOR so it is important to try and be as specific as possible. When you find a result that you like, click on either the print or download tab to get the full article.

LexisNexis Academic
Lexis Nexis is a great source for newspaper articles from around the world. When Lexis Nexis opens up, click on News on the left-hand menu. Then select World News in the Step One box. Then Select Middle/East/Africa Sources in the Step Two box. You can then search for Africa in the Step Three box and narrow the date range to previous month in the Step Four box. You will then be able to see current topics on Africa which are being discussed in major newspapers.

UNConnections
Select UN Connections and then search for Africa. The full text of all UN Documents on Africa is then available.

Articles not available at the Xavier Library can be ordered through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Loan.  Fill out an article request form for each article that you want, filling in all the information. 

Online request forms are available from the Library's home page or print forms are available at the Reference Desk. Remember it can take 1-2 weeks to get an article through this service.
