Print Books

XPLORE Library Catalog (tips & tricks; RefWorks help; XLinks; video tutorials) is Xavier library's online public access catalog. It includes all of the library's books, journals, audiovisuals, and microform materials. Search XPLORE by keyword, author, title and Library of Congress subject heading. If you don't find what you need, request it online (printable instructions; video tutorial) from OhioLINK, the combined library catalog of 88 college, university, public, and state libraries in Ohio.

Users may request items online (printable instructions; video tutorial) and pick them up in 3 business days at an OhioLINK library of their choosing. When available there are links to Read (full-text available) and Limited Preview (limited full-text available) at Google Books. It is produced by OhioLINK and the user interface is provided by Innovative Interfaces, Inc.

Abu-Lughod's Writing Womens' Worlds: Bedouin StoriesACLS Humanities eBooks (Using this resource; all full-text; title list; XLinks; RefWorks help), formerly the History eBook Project, is an online, fully searchable digital collection of 1,500 high-quality books covering all aspects of world history and many other humanities disciplines. Books in this database have been recommended and reviewed by scholars. They are of major importance, remain vital to scholarship and are frequently cited in the literature. Books may include illustrations, graphs, charts, and maps as well as video, sound and music. Restrictions may apply to printing and downloading as specified in Section 107 of the U. S. Copyright Law. It is produced by the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) in collaboration with ten learned societies, about 80 contributing publishers, and librarians at the University of Michigan’s Scholarly Publishing Office. Norbert Brockman's An African Biographical DictionaryCredo Reference (Using this resource; all full-text; XLinks; RefWorks help), formerly Xreferplus, provides hundreds of electronic reference books covering a broad range of subjects, including art, bilinguals, biography, business, dictionaries, encyclopedias, food, geography, history, language, law, literature, medicine, music, philosophy, psychology, quotations, religion, science, social sciences, and technology. It features over 65,000 images (art, diagrams, maps and photos), several thousand images from the National Gallery in London, and over 93,000 audio pronunciation files accessible in the advanced search. Dennis Lines' Bullies: Understanding Bullies and Bullying ebrary (Using this resource; all full-text; XLinks; RefWorks help) contains about 32,300 electronic books in business, marketing, economics, computers, information technology, health, biomedical sciences, clinical sciences, engineering, technology, life sciences, physical sciences, education, history, humanities, law, international relations, public policy, social sciences, and behavioral sciences. It includes books in the Vault Career Library. Users can search for words in the subject, title or full-text of books in this collection. Content can be easily copied and pasted into a word processing document. Books in this collection are protected by copyright laws and there are limitations on the number of pages that can be printed and copied. It is compiled by and the user interface is provided by ebrary. Monthly system maintenance is performed the first Tuesday of each month from 8-10pm (Pacific Time) during which ebrary may be unavailable. No reader is required to use these electronic books. Women's Work EBSCO eBook Collection (covers 1980-2011; all full-text; tutorials; RefWorks help; XLinks) incorporates the former netLibrary electronic book collection with thousands of purchased and public domain titles with a broad coverage of topics. Users can preview an e-book online, read a page in depth, jump to specific page, or use links in the table of contents or index to go to specific chapters or topics of interest. Every word in every e-book is searchable. In addition to keyword, users can search by author, title, subject, category, ISBN, publisher, and/or date of publication. Using the Choose Databases feature, e-books can be searched along with other EBSCO databases that provide primarily journal articles. Table of contents can be previewed at the search results display without checking out or opening the e-book. Once the e-book is opened users can search within the book, consult a dictionary, zoom text, ans expand the viewing window. To create notes or add an e-book to a folder requires setting up an account. Output options include print (typically limited to 60 pages), email, and export to bibliographic management software like RefWorks. Also available are citing information for the major citation styles, bookmarking in social networking sites like Facebook, and perma-linking on websites and course management systems. There is unlimited, simultaneous usage and no special readers or equipment are required to use this resource. Users can search for keywords in the chapter title or throughout the full-text of a chapter. Book chapters can be downloaded, emailed or printed, as well as translated into eight languages. It covers general reference as well as specific subject categories: archaeology, art and architecture, bilingual dictionaries, classical studies, encyclopedias, English dictionaries and thesauri, history, language reference, law, linguistics, literature, media studies, medicine and health, music, names studies, performing arts, philosophy, quotations, religion, science and technology, social sciences, and society and culture. All subject categories can be searched separately. Reference types include overview pages, subject reference, timelines, quotations, English dictionaries, and bilingual dictionaries. Oxford Scholarship Online: Philosophy (all full-text; XLinks; RefWorks help) is a cross-searchable collection of electronic books covering philosophy from the twentieth century to the present. Subject areas include aesthetics; ancient, general, moral, and political philosophy; history of philosophy; logic; philosophy of mathematics, language, the mind, religion, and science; metaphysics; and epistemology. The cross reference feature allows users to highlight a word or phrase in a book and retrieve other books containing that word or phrase.
