Tutoring Statistics
In Fall 2007, 321 Xavier students made 482 requests for a tutor. During the Spring of 2008, 254 Xavier students made 371 tutoring requests (which is a 28% increase from the Spring 2007 requests). Here is some of the information we collected from the data that our clients reported:
Class Years of Students Requesting Tutoring
The following chart is the break-down of the class years noted on the intake forms during the 2007-2008 academic year.
Fall 2007
- Freshmen: 209
- Sophomores: 148
- Juniors: 66
- Seniors: 49
- Other/Unknown: 9

When students signed up during the semester in comparison to Grades
The following graphs are graphs of grades vs. the intake week for the tutoring request. The first chart is the data from Fall 2007 tutoring, and the second is from Spring 2008 tutoring. In both graphs, midterm week is approximately the 7th week. As these graphs show, the difference between the midterm grades and the final grades roughly increase from the beginning of the semester to midterms. After midterms, the difference decreases. Therefore, it pays to sign up for a tutor at the beginning of the semester, or to be motivated enough by midterm grades to sign up then!

Statistics from the 2004-2005 academic year were used in making these charts.
Hours Tutored in comparison to Grades
The following charts and graphs indicate that it is more likely that a student will improve her grade and less likely that she will withdraw from a course, if the student meets regularly and works often with her tutors. The data from the 2007-2008 academic year was used to create these charts.
