Supplemental Instruction and Drop-In Tutoring

The LAC is pleased to announce that we will be facilitating Supplemental Instruction sessions for all sections of Anatomy & Physiology, General Biology, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry.  We will support two sections of MATH 150 Elements of Calculus during Spring 2013.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic support program that targets traditionally difficult courses, courses with high D, F, and W rates. A trained peer tutor attends the lecture class, takes notes, and facilitates study sessions for the course. All students in the course are encouraged to participate in the study sessions. The SI program has had resounding success. In one course, the regular attendants received a course average of 3.02, while those who did not attend SI sessions received an average of 1.6.

Additionally, there will be drop-in tutoring sessions for a variety of subjects, including Spanish, Music Theory, and Physics. Trained peer tutors facilitate the sessions, guiding the members and helping them find answers to their questions and make a regular habit of studying.

Students do not need to sign up to attend these sessions; they can simply show up during the scheduled time for the session. Locations of the sessions are listed by the session time.

Current Supplemental Instruction Sessions--Spring 2013

Sessions begin on Monday, January 14, 2013, and end on Sunday, April 28, 2013. There will be no SI sessions during breaks (January 20-21, February 22-March 3, and March 27-April 1).  This schedule will be updated regularly.

Current Drop-In Tutoring Sessions--Spring 2013

Sessions begin on Monday, January 14, 2013, and end on Thursday, April 25, 2013. There will be no drop-in sessions during breaks (February 22-March 3 and March 27-April 1).
