RESERVATION POLICIES

The instructional facilities computing labs that are available for reservation are: Alter B2, Elet 101, Cohen 108. To ensure fair and optimal use of these facilities, the following policies will be observed.

  • Faculty members may reserve one of the labs listed above. Alter 223, Hailstones 4, and Cohen 190 are interactive classrooms. Please contact the registrar's office for information concerning their use. Preference will be given to classes in which the computer is a primary and essential tool of instruction, as in Information Systems and/or computer-assisted writing or desktop publishing.
  • After that, reservations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Reservation requests may be made by completing the Faculty Lab Reservation Request Form above.
  1. Reservations must be made at least one week in advance. This is to allow time for notifying open access student users of lab reservation schedules. Reservations will not be accepted more than six months in advance. Except for standing reservations for classes where the computer is a necessary and integral tool of instruction, or where the computer is necessary for use in a final exam, reservations will not be accepted during the last two weeks of any semester and during Finals Week. Lab reservations are set for a single semester. All students entering the lab during open access and class time may be required to show their student ID, if requested to do so. Faculty and students are required to scan their own disks for viruses before using lab equipment. It is strongly recommended that personal laptop and desktop computers be scanned regularly to ensure that disks are virus-free before being brought to the lab. Individuals whose disks repeatedly infect University equipment will not be permitted to use the lab. Students should be reminded by their instructors to delete old or unneeded files from their Novell accounts regularly and often, so as to free up much-needed space on the server hard drives. Computer labs will not be used for lectures, except in those instances when the computer is an integral instructional tool. The lab printers should not be used as substitutes for copy machines. If students are required to have large documents for class, those documents should be provided to them before they are sent to the lab. Any problem with computers should be reported immediately to the Help Desk at 745-4863. Reservations will adhere to the standard class schedules posted by the Registrar’s office.

  2. Priority will be given to academic instruction over institutional training when requests are submitted concurrently. Confirmed reservations will not be canceled. Thank you for your cooperation in helping to make the computer labs accessible and user friendly for all.

I have read the above Lab Reservation Policy. By clicking the Reserve button, I fully understand these guidelines and agree to comply.

NOTE: Submitting a reservation request does not guarantee a lab reservation.
