Getting
an I-20
All non-immigrant students who want to
have an F-1 visa must have an I-20 to present to the embassy or consulate
in their home country. The university may issue an I-20 (Certificate of
Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Status) to international students who
have been admitted to a full-time university program and have shown proof
of sufficient finances to cover all anticipated expenses while in the U.S.
The first step in obtaining an I-20 is
to apply to the university.
Prospective students may use the university
financial support form or may provide notarized letters of support
from the sponsor and the sponsor's bank which indicate the amount of money
necessary for the student's program and the period of time that the student
wishes to study. The university posts a breakdown of estimated expenses
each year.
