2017 Xavier University Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment (OE) refers to the time of year when our benefit plans renew and an annual time period when eligible employees must elect plans and add/drop dependents. OE elections made in November of this year become effective January 1 of the following year, and remain in place for one year.

The 2017 Open Enrollment period to enroll online is Monday, November 7, 2016 through Monday, November 21, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. Est.

The next time you are able to make changes is the following year’s OE period or if a qualifying event occurs. You must complete a qualifying event change within 31 days of the qualifying event.

2017 Open Enrollment Information Sessions:

We encourage all employees who currently participate in Xavier’s healthcare plans or are considering participating in 2017 to attend an Open Enrollment Information Session where the changes to all plans for 2017 will be discussed in depth.  There are 10 sessions available for employees beginning Monday, October 24 through Friday, November 4.  To view all available sessions please click here.

2017 Plans

For 2017, Xavier will continue to offer two medical plan options:

  • National Point of Service (NPOS) with no plan design changes for 2017
  • High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a deductible change to $3,000 for single coverage and $6,000 for family coverage.  Watch the video for more information on how the HDHP works by clicking the following link: High Deductible Health Plan Video

Medical premiums will reflect a wellness rate for those who voluntarily participated in the health risk assessment and biometric screening in September of 2016 and a standard rate for those that did not participate.  These rates will go into effect January 1, 2017 and will be reflected on your online benefit enrollment.  For detail information, please click here.

From November 7, 2016 through January 31, 2017 employees who did not participate in the September voluntary health risk assessment and biometric screening will be offered another opportunity to do so, if desired, by registering here.  Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email with paperwork and instructions on how to complete the health risk assessment and biometric screening.  Employees who complete the health risk assessment and biometric screening by January 31 will then pay the wellness premium effective March 1, 2017.

We are pleased to announce that Xavier is partnering with Dental Care plus to offer two dental plans for 2017.  The Standard plan is the same plan design as 2016 but will receive a slight increase in premiums.  We are also offering a Basic plan that costs 22% less than the standard plan.  The Basic plan has a lower deductible and covers preventative services at 100%.  This plan does not cover major or orthodontic services.  We encourage all employees to attend an Open Enrollment Information Session to learn more about the new Basic plan.  Please see the plan summaries below:

Vision Plan

The Humana vision plan design for 2017 will change slightly as the In-Network frame allowance will change from $50 wholesale to $130 retail.  Based on previous utilization of the plan, a slight rate increase will be applied.  For the plan summary and rates, please click here.

Prescription Changes

Humana makes changes annually to the drug formulary for both medical plans offered by Xavier.  If the formulary changes affect you or your covered members, you will receive notification from Humana in November.  Diabetic formulary changes will be communicated in October.  If you have questions, please contact Humana directly at the phone number on the back of your Medical card.
