Assistant Professor
Mathematics

Xavier University, a Catholic university in the Jesuit tradition, invites applications for two tenure-track positions in mathematics at the assistant professor level, starting Fall 2010. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in mathematics by August 2010. We seek one candidate with expertise in applied/computational mathematics and will consider applicants in all areas of mathematics for the second position. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of and willingness to engage a campus community dedicated to undergraduate liberal arts instruction. In particular, we seek colleagues excited about joining university and departmental efforts to further advance the culture of inquiry within our undergraduate student body. Candidates must be committed to outstanding teaching of both mathematics majors and non-majors alike, the development of a sustainable scholarly research program, and service consistent with the mission of Jesuit higher education. A successful candidate will be expected to consider innovative and effective approaches in the teaching of mathematics and to explore activities that encourage student participation in research.

A complete application includes a letter of application, statements of teaching philosophy and research aspirations, a curriculum vitae, graduate transcripts, and three letters of recommendation. These items should be submitted online at http://www.mathjobs.org or mailed to: Gary Lewandowski, Chair, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Xavier University, 3800 Victory Parkway, Cincinnati, OH 45207-4441.

To ensure consideration, all materials must be received by Monday, November 30, 2009. For more information about our department, please visit www.xavier.edu/mathematics/.  Preliminary interviews of selected candidates will be conducted at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in January 2010. Xavier University has a strong commitment to diversity and, building upon recent success, seeks a broad spectrum of candidates including women and minorities.
