PROJECT ARCHITECT 

Xavier University is seeking applications for the position of Project Architect.  Primary focus of the position is responsibility for development of project scope, design and construction documents, for Renewal and Replacement construction projects. 
 
Responsibilities include creating complete architectural design documents for Renewal and Replacement (R&R) projects. Work includes programming, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, contract documents, specification writing, interior design and furniture, and construction administration. Collaborate with Construction Manager in establishing preliminary and final cost estimates. 
 
Duties involve consulting and interacting with customers, internal departments, and external consultants regarding strategies and cost estimates; resolve problems and conflicts; coordinate meetings with project committee members and various other University department representatives; prepare all necessary drawing and specification documents either directly by in-house staff or through contracts with consulting engineers; insure campus standards are met; monitor design and construction to insure adherence to LEED standards when appropriate; collaborate with Construction Manager in preparation of cost estimates; prepare or oversee the preparation of various presentation materials, graphs, charts, schedules, and forms necessary to provide current and accurate data about project status to decision makers; assist in updating and maintaining existing building drawings, utility masters, campus maps, and design and construction guidelines; ensure compliance with the University, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations; monitor architectural methods and techniques to stay current with the state of the art and make recommendations for process improvements.
 
Qualifications: bachelor degree in architecture and registration in the state of Ohio; minimum of ten years’ experience in the successful design and management of construction projects of $5 million; strong computer skills, including Autodesk Revit, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and an overall ability to utilize technology for the design and management of construction projects; knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures; strong work ethic and the ability to function independently; ability to work in a team environment as well as foster a cooperative work environment; strong human relations abilities and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituencies; ability to organize, prioritize and perform under pressure; ability to fully understand and evaluate architectural plans and specifications prepared by others; must possess a working knowledge of appropriate building codes, environmental agency requirements, and life safety standards;  accurate and detail oriented; demonstrate excellent interpersonal, oral, and communication skills with professional level writing skills; demonstrate commitment to quality and quality improvement; and ability to follow all safety, department, system and state policies, procedures and regulations.
 
Preference will be given to applicants with institutional experience.
 
Physical requirements: ability to climb stairs, ladders, and perform construction review. 
 
Work may involve moderate exposure to hazards or physical risks related to the construction environment. May be subject to temperature extremes or required to work outdoors in inclement weather for short periods of time.
 
May be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
