Financial Planning Analyst and Senior Financial Planning Analyst

The Financial Planning Analyst and Senior Financial Planning Analyst under the guidance of the Assistant Vice President for Planning and Budgets (AVP) are responsible for the analytical support of Xavier’s financial strategy. These positions will support the analysis requirements for proposed new programs and initiatives and will support the financial planning and forecasting efforts, financial modeling, analytics and reporting including the compilation of reports and presentations.
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 
Financial Planning and forecasting – Assists the AVP with the underlying analytics in support of long-range planning efforts that will encompass operating, auxiliary, long-term capital, endowment and reserves elements. This effort will incorporate environmental scans, modeling and analysis for enrollment, pricing, financial aid and other key drivers. Requires initiative and ability to think independently.
 
Financial modeling, analytics and reporting – Provides modeling and analytics supporting revenue growth initiatives surrounding enrollment, academic programs, endowments, and alternative revenues. Has responsibility for Xavier’s five year financial pro-forma, works with others to obtain and evaluate information and develop scenario analysis to inform targets, monitor performance, and prompt corrective action. Will be an in–house expert in financial modeling software (Future Perfect) and be responsible for high quality, integrated pro-forma financials, budgets, balance sheets, income statements, and credit ratios. Cost analysis pertaining to but not limited to operating and capital expenditures and ad-hoc analysis upon request. Under the direction of the AVP this effort will require the ability to take complex information and package it into meaningful reports, communications and presentations.
 
University Planning and Resource Council Support (UPRC) – Assists the AVP in providing support for the UPRC in terms of high quality analysis and other work products. Works with others to ensure their proposals are well developed prior to submittal to the UPRC. This will entail the ability to think critically and analyze new proposals and work closely with the AVP.
 
Systems and reporting – Assists the AVP in developing new or modified reporting capabilities. Operates with a continual improvement point-of-view looking for ways to advance the data extraction/import capabilities across applications for financial planning purposes as well as the analysis and reporting capabilities of new and existing systems. In addition, under the direction of the AVP compiles various reports and presentations to better support the various constituents of the Planning department. Regularly access the Banner financial system and other systems to extract and compile data for planning and analysis. Requires high level of system expertise including reporting.Firm working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to use in varied situations.
 
Qualifications for both positions:  Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; proven skills to align with each position in the following areas: project/process management; computer/technical operations, e.g. Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on spreadsheet applications; written and oral communications; technical and interpersonal expertise. Experience with Banner and Future Perfect software applications preferred.
 
Additional qualifications for the Financial Planning Analyst: Minimum of 3 years directly related experience.
 
Additional qualifications for the Senior Financial Planning Analyst:  Minimum of 5 years directly related experience; experience of working and interacting with senior leadership. Master’s degree preferred.
