Xavier University’s Department of Health Services Administration invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Health Services Administration, with an estimated start date of June 1, 2011. The position carries faculty rank of Associate Professor or Full-Professor, with the possibility of tenure. This is a 12-month position. The chair serves as the primary administrator of the department and reports directly to the Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Health, and Education.
The department is nationally recognized with a 52-year history of educating healthcare leaders in the Jesuit tradition. Currently, the department offers a Master’s degree in Health Services Administration (MHSA) to both full-time and part-time students. It collaborates with the Department of Theology to offer a Master of Arts degree in Health Care Mission Integration. The department is working with other departments in the College to develop a doctoral degree in leadership. It also looks to start an undergraduate program in health services administration.
Candidates should have a terminal degree (PhD, DrPH, or similar). The candidate must have an established record of teaching and scholarship, or an equivalent of extensive experience in a discipline, field, or actively related to the department’s academic programs. The candidate preferably has extensive administrative experience in the healthcare industry.
In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to be an excellent leader. She or he must: (1) be a good ambassador of the department; (2) be innovative; (3) have a vision of how to continue departmental growth and be able to execute the vision; (4) network with external partners; (5) work well with other departments and administrators at Xavier; (6) promote the department and secure the external funding for future department development; (7) work closely with the Alumni Association and the program’s Advisory Board; (8) ensure teaching excellence and support the faculty in their scholarship; (9) mentor faculty; and (10) secure residency positions for graduate students.
