BESL FAMILY CHAIR IN ETHICS/RELIGION AND SOCIETY

Xavier University invites nominations and applications for an appointment to the Ethics/Religion and Society Chair. The distinguished professorship will be awarded for a period of one to three years, as determined by mutual agreement of the University and the appointee.

The Chair of Ethics/Religion and Society is open to those teacher-scholars who have expertise in disciplines that have humanistic content and employ humanistic methods. Appropriate disciplines include philosophy, theology, religious studies, literature, cultural studies, history, and the fine arts. Applicants must already hold the rank of associate or full professor. Selection will be made on the basis of a strong record in undergraduate teaching and scholarly accomplishment. Each year the Chair will teach a total of three undergraduate courses over the course of two semesters that cultivate ethical and/or religious analysis. The Chair will also participate in the intellectual life of the university. Responsibilities include a public lecture and leadership of a faculty development workshop on a topic of the Chair’s choice.

The incoming professor will occupy the Chair beginning in the 2010-2011 academic year. Applications must be postmarked by October 9th, 2009.
