Associate/Full Professor and Director of Clinical Training
Tenure-track Associate/Full Professor and Director of Clinical Training: The Department of Psychology at Xavier University invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin Fall 2013. This appointment will be at an Associate or Full Professor level, and the successful candidate will also serve as the Director of Clinical Training for the Psy.D. Program.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from an APA-accredited program. An Ohio license or license eligibility by August 31, 2013 is required. The successful candidate at the rank of Associate Professor will be experienced in teaching graduate courses in applied clinical areas. Demonstrated excellence in both undergraduate and graduate teaching, a record of peer-reviewed empirical research, and evidence of active participation in university and/or professional service also are necessary. Clinical practice and professional involvement beyond licensure are expected.
For appointment at the rank of Professor, the candidate must have demonstrated a sustained level of outstanding achievement in teaching, including mentorship of colleagues and leadership in pedagogic and curricular development. Ongoing scholarship must evidence a notable record of contributions that are recognized and given positive evaluations by the scholarly community. Significant and ongoing service must be demonstrated, including evidence of effective participation in university shared governance.
Duties for the position include functioning as the Director of Clinical Training (DCT) for the Psy.D. Program, teaching courses (at a reduced load), providing dissertation supervision, developing a continuing research program, and participating in university service.
The DCT will hold the central role in clinical training for the Psy.D. program, building upon the success of the current program to assure the ongoing quality of clinical training. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in integrated healthcare who are willing to ensure that the program keeps up-to-date in training for this kind of practice. Responsibilities include administering practicum training and pre-doctoral internships, overseeing assessment and related functions important to the APA accreditation process, directing curricular development, overseeing professional development of our students and maintaining contact with our graduates.
Xavier University is a comprehensive institution in the Jesuit Catholic tradition with over 7000 students. The Department of Psychology has 17 full-time faculty members who teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs. The five-year APA-accredited Psy.D. Program in clinical psychology adheres to a practitioner-scientist model and has three areas of clinical focus: children and adolescents; older adults; and individuals with severe mental disorders. The Psychological Services Center on campus serves as the training clinic for our clinical doctoral students. The Department also has two-year master’s degree programs in industrial-organizational and general experimental psychology, and a well-established, liberal arts-based undergraduate psychology major.
