Leadership Academy Purpose
The Xavier University Leadership Academy (LA) is designed to provide high performing supervisors, department chairs and managers with a broader and deeper understanding of the myriad of functions performed by offices across the University and the challenges faced at Xavier and by higher education in the United States. LA participants will be exposed to different leadership philosophies and gain a greater understanding of their individual leadership characteristics. This self knowledge in addition to a greater understanding of the strategic issues facing the University will prepare LA participants to be high performing contributors on campus.
The program consists of one full day session per month over an eight month period. Participants take the program as a cohort group of approximately 10 individuals.
Expected program topics include: leading groups and organizations, mission based leadership, techniques for improving interpersonal influence and effectiveness, academic issues in higher education, finance and economics in higher education, keeping up with the changing culture and needs of students, understanding and managing diversity in university life, legal issues in higher education, the future of technology in higher education and strategic planning/implementing Xavier’s strategic plan.
- Hold a current position supervising other non-student employees, as a department chair or serving as a program manager
- Three or more years employment experience at Xavier University
- Demonstrated excellent performance in positions held
- Complete and submit an application form including a letter of recommendation from current supervisor
